It would not be my first choice of location, though I enjoyed going to dinner there at Vivendo.

Perhaps you would consider Minerve instead?

But there are numerous other "top-drawer" hotels in Rome, and I do not all the locations and features well enough to offer a comprehensive comparison.

Best wishes,

Rex
If you want a starwood Excelsior is in a better location but still not my first choice of location if money is no object.

It is within walking distance to Spanish Steps, Via veneto, etc..if you have a good price it is a great choice! It has been recently renovated and we do enjoy staying there. I can't imagine someone who has not stayed there commenting on it.

This is a simply wonderful hotel in many ways (rooms are spacious and luxurious, staff is wonderful, health club is gorgeous). We stayed in a suite there last week. We actually only stayed one night by default, as we couldn't get into our preferred hotel on the first night of our stay. The one way it's NOT a nice hotel is by it's location. Although it's a fairly easy walk to the many restaurants along the Via Veneto, we prefer staying someplace where there are sidewalk cafes and shops immediately at hand; there's virtually nothing in the immediate vicinity of the St. Regis.

I understand that there is a lot to like about it. The question was about its location, and I have been there, and can attest to the splendor of its lobby.

It's not a location I would choose, and I offered an alternative.

Why would someone need to have stayed in a hotel to comment on its location?
Well, I have stayed there and I loved the hotel. The location is good, better than the Excelsior, by far. Like it has been told here by people who stayed there, it's within walking distance from Spanish Steps and other places. Don't chANGE YOUR MIND FOR ANOTHEr hotel. If I could I would stay there again in a second. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, great service. You will love it.

I have stayed there. I love the hotel. I don't love the location.
