how is madrid metro at night?

hi there,
me & my girlfriend will be arriving at madrid barajas airport at midnight.

we are used to taking metros to our hotels when on holiday but wonder what we might find at that hour ( drunkards? urchins? punks?) in the madrid metro.

are there police at each platform in madrid? or should we take a taxi?

thx
K

take a taxi. Although the metro is OK at that hour there could be fewer trains and long waits or you may encounter stairs at your destination. Are you staying near the Plaza Mayor?

Most metros don't run very late. You might try this airport shuttle service which cost about $20. www.aerocity.com
My daughter recently taxied to the airport, because there were too many changes involved in taking the metro. I think the taxi cost about 25E, but they got stuck in rush hour traffic.

Check http://www.MetroMadrid.es
Most lines stop running around 02:00 and don't resume service until 06:00. Between midnight and 02:00 most run at 15 minute intervals.
I concur with kybourbon: AeroCity is a good recommendation.

there used to be a bus that went every 15 minutes from airport to plaza colon in 30 minutes max. that time of night probably about 15. should cost 2-2.5 euros. last bus seems to be at 1.15am.

take taxi from there. you will save SOME..

here is some info i have found.
