The train from London is a no-brainer - about 2+ hours from Kings Cross.

Is there enough to do? York is one of the most beautiful and fascinating cities in Europe. You will have a hard time tearing youerself away after one day. Besides the Minster, there is the Shambles, the city wall (you can walk on the top of the medieval city wall almost all the wway around the city), the riverside walks, several fabulous museums - especially the York County Museum - the Jorvik Viking center, the finest railroad museum in the country, several other fine churches and many beautiful old bldgs.

York Minster conducts several services each day - morning mass, evensong, special worship services. You will have no problem fitting a service into a day's schedule.

York is 2 hours by high speed train from London's Kings Cross Station. We've done it as a day trip and had plenty of time to see the Minster, wander about, have lunch & take a boat ride on the river. We reserved tickets in advance (Daypex tickets) by calling the train line itself (Great North Eastern Train-GNER). It was a nice day - a little long, but if you can't stay overnight it's a way to do it. I would think the Minster web site would have info on services.

Not sure about England, but it's 126 miles from New London, Connecticut to New York, (NY)

Last June we road the train from London to York---- 2 hours from Kings Cross station---- and stayed one night in York before returning to London. There was plenty to do. We could have spent more time there and would rent a car next time and venture out to Castle Howard and the moors. We did all that was previously mentioned and even had tea at Betty's and picked up some fun soaps at the local Lush's. I would suggest Evensong at the Minster. To see the list of services and times, go to www.yorkminster.org/minsterservices, I believe. Enjoy your visit. It is well worth it!
