How far is it to walk from the Mouth of Truth to Sora Margherita for lunch?

Four days until we leave for our cruise! :)

The last time we were in Rome, we wanted to see the Mouth of Truth, but never made it there.

My plan is to go see it, and then have lunch at Sora Margherita. On a map, it doesn't look very far. Can anyone who has eaten there give me some tips on how to find this restaurant? I have heard that there is no sign and to look for a green door.

Are you sure you don't mean Sora Lella?

No, Sora Margherita. Piazza della Cinque Scole, 30. It's in the Jewish Quarter.

It isn't far and it isn't easy to tell you how to get there.

I guess half the fun will be searching for it! Thanks for the photo. I heard there was a green door, but it looks like I need to look for red beads instead.

It's not far, probably no more than a 10 minute walk. Go up the Lungotevere (large busy street along the Tiber) then turn right on Via Portico di Ottavia. Take the first street, Via Catalana, left and you will be walking next to the Jewish temple. Cross Via di Tempio still continuing on Via Catalana which will end at Piazza di Cinque Scole. As you face the Piazza, the restaurant will be on your right. We did this same walk, only longer, in July. Try to get there by 12:30 or you may have to wait as there are very few tables.

gracie, make sure you check the hours that the church where the Mouth of Truth is is open...the Mouth is right outside it, but behind a big iron fence that is locked when the church is closed.

If you like fried artichokes - theirs is THE best. Not much English spoken here and you need an "association card", which you will have to fill a form out for. No charge for the card and a nice souvenir.

Annabelle2, thanks for the heads up on checking the church hours. I'll look into that. We will be there on a Thursday, hopefully it will be open that day.

It is hardly "a restaurant" just a very plain and simple eatery open only at lunch time. They usually only have a couple of things on offer. but it's characteristic and cheap. Not many of these places left in Rome. it used to be full of locals but these days you usually need to queue. The negative thing about it is that you have to eat inside where it's dark and gloomy. Giggetto at the Portico d'Ottavia near by has lovely tables outside near the ruins BUT the food can sometimes be iffy. Artichokes are generally good there too but will they still be in season when you come?
Anyway have fun it'll be a lovely walk. If you have the time and it's still open (until 12th June I think) visit the Giardino delle Rose near bocca della verità I was there today - it's so lovely!!
