how far in advance of flight to get to airport
Here in the states there has been much concern about long lines at security and advice to get to airports at least two hours in advance. I am wondering how far in advance you would advise getting to the following airports:
1. Athens (to Chania)
2. Athens (to Heathrow)
3. Heathrow (to the states)
thank you.

For any flight to the US - which will have multiple security checks - get there 3 hours in advance. For the others check with your airline when they want you there - which may well vary based on destination and current conditions.

Just flew back to the US a couple of weeks ago, and security was very quick at Heathrow T4. Nevertheless, I prefer stress-free travel, so always arrive at Heathrow at least 3 hrs before flight departure. That said, I'm more concerned about delays in driving to the airport than with check-in and security.
I allow 2 hrs for both domestic and international flights at Athens Airport. Some say you need to allow only 1 hr for domestic flights, but security in domestic departures last September was busier than I've ever seen it before. Lots of domestic flights leave in the morning, and that seems to be the busiest time.
