How far from Ile Saint Louis to Place Maubert/Monge/Moufettard?
I had another post in which I was asking what would be the closest street market from our apartment on the Ile Saint Louis.
I wanted to know how far, in minutes, would it be from Ile Saint Louis to these three markets. I can really tell from the map exactly how far it would be, and I know that some areas of Paris are really spread out, whereas others are fairly close to one another.

> They're all easily walkable ...
I agree. I did it a few times from Ile St.Louis and it's pleasant enough walk if the weather is ok and if you are not particularly tired. Perhpas about 1 km to Mouffetard, less to Maubert.

I think anything is walkable within a few miles, but I don't think I'd walk several miles to go to a street market. Maubert is just across the river, and then a few blocks from the Seine. It's about 500 meters from the western end of Ile St Louis. That's about one-third mile. Place Monge is right near Mouffetard, it's only about a block away from one point of it, the top near place Contrescarpe, so they aren't really any difference in distance exactly, except that is a roving market that is only there once or twice a week, and rue Mouffetard is an entire street of shops, so goes farther. Place Monge is probably around 1200 meters from the island or 3/4 mile.
You said you have a map but can't tell distance, doesn't it have a scale on it for that? A good map should, so you might want to get a different one. Even Streetwise Paris maps do. I think they are good for what they cover, they just don't extend to the outer edges of Paris very well, but they cover all that part. But, you can always use www.mappy.fr from some routes to get distance, also, if you would like.

when we stayed on Ile St. Louis we did daily shopping on Rue Monge (Kayser's bakery) - so the answer is, its quite close (maybe a 10 min walk going via the street that attaches the Ile to the "mainland" on both sides.

Thanks everyone for all your replies - it good to know that the Maubert market is about a 10 min walk away - would walking to Mouffetard be closer to 20-25 min walk?
It would probably be faster if we did the metro, but I really want to walk alot on this trip.
We will be doing the markets in the mornings at around 8:30-9am, so I just wanted to get some time references before we go.
Is Maubert a good market, or should we walk further to Mouffetard/Monge?
Someone mentioned nearby markets on the right bank - which ones are those?

30 minutes would be more than enough. It may depend on where exactly your are located at Ile Saint Louis but taking Métro doesn't look very practical. At least you would need one change, wouldn't it? I would walk.
