How far ahead to reserve rental car (France)?

How are ahead of time should I reserve a rental car in France? Is it too soon to reserve now? Are the rates better if you reserve sooner rather than later?

I've rented cars a few days before leaving and a few months before leaving. It doesn't really matter - the rental company will always find a way to get you a car. If you have special requirements, like an automatic or a kids' car seat, I'd rent at least a few weeks ahead of time.
The rates depend on the exchange rate tosome extent. Reserving sooner rather than later doesn't necessarily mean anything with regard to a better rate.

If you are considering the buy/sell option, I believe that Renault and Autoeurope give a discount for an early purchase. In any case, you need to purchase at least one month before your departure.

If the rental rates go down, AutoEurope usually gives you a credit for the difference. So I'd suggest making a reservation as soon as you have firm dates, just to be on the safe side--popular car models can sometimes book up quickly.

If you know the dates and location, reserve it now especially if you donlt have to pay anything. Then just before you leave you can check again to see if rates are higher or lower. You can always cancel a reservation.
