How early to buy trenitalia tickets?

I will be traveling in May to florence via Pisa airport and will be using the train.

I thought that someone on here suggested to not pre-buy in case I miss my train due to customs or some sort of delay.

Is it better to buy the ticket ahead of time, or is there usually enough space to buy it when I arrive?

There is almost hourly service from Pisa to Florence. As I recall, the majority of seats on these trains are Second Class and I am not even sure the trains are reservable for the most part.

I would not bother buying tickets ahead of time; just get the ticket after you arrive.
