Oh, melnq8, not the Schaumrolle! Blech. Blech. Blech. Give me a Schneeball any day.

Lovely photos. Safe travels home.

Hi Melnq8, I've been a bit "out of the loop" on Fodor's for a couple of months. Thanks for your photos from Hallstatt. We were there in the fall of '14, and fortunately experienced beautiful weather, It was interesting to see the same area in winter. Can't wait to read the TR of your trip. With the holidays around, I know it may take a while. We're just beginning our TR from Spain from Sept. '18! "Merry Colorado Christmas" to you.

Too funny fourfourtravel - I feel the same way about Schneeballs. Ick.

We left St Gilgen under foggy skies this morning, and the owner of our guesthouse said rain was expected there from now until Christmas. So imagine my glee when the sun was shining in Salzburg AND in Munich when we arrived this afternoon!

I feel your pain Adelaidean, I truly do, but I guess 35 is better than 40. I so do not miss those endless Australian summers.

Nice to see you here tomarkot! Merry Christmas to you as well.

A shot from today with clear skies, oh my!

Hi Melnq8, really enjoying catching up with you and your annual European winter trip. Great photos of Hallstatt, reminding us of our fall visit in '15. Interesting to see the familiar sights in the winter. My forum activity has been sporadic during the past few months. I hope you had an enjoyable trip, and look forward to your TR. Since it's the busy holiday period when you're returning, I'm sure it will be a while. I've just begun to work on the TR of our Spain trip from the fall! "Merry Colorado Christmas to you".

I just ran across this video which I think you'll find helpful if you plan to visit Hallstatt between Salzburg and Vienna:
