How does this intinerary sound for Ireland???

Ok, so I think I have finally come up with some sort of a plan for my trip next month.

Sun. April 8th- leave dublin, drive through and explore cashel/cahir, sleep in Cork
Monday-Explore Cork and Kinsale, drive to Killarney to sleep
Tuesday-Ring of Kerry, sleep in Killarney or Limerick (need help trying to decide if driving to limerick is feasible that day)
Weds.-Explore Limerick?? Drive to Doolin, spend the night there
Thurs.-Cliffs of Moher/Burren, drive to Galway City to sleep
Fri-Tour Connemare, Galway City to sleep
Sat-Explore Galway City
Sun-home

How feasible does this all sound? I want to see as much as I can in the smallest amount of time. I will be by myself so there is no pressure of anyone else wanting to go anywhere else.

It sounds like an echo.

It hardly differs from most Irish itineraries posted here. Which means too much driving, not enough stopping.

You have an incredible amount of driving to do on most days. Ireland does not have super highways and is very slow to get around. Plus there are a million things to see along each road you take! I would avoid staying in Cork unless you have a particular reason to go there. Kinsale is far nicer.

well when there is a lot to see when u only have 6 days it is a lot of driving Padraig. I asked for suggestion not negativity.

I wasn't being negative. It looks to me as if you are attempting too much for the time you have. Cut some stuff out, slow down, and give yourself an easier and, I think, more enjoyable time.

I wouldn't try as much as that in six days, even starting in Ireland and knowing the territory.

If you want direct suggestions, I would say cut either the Ring of Kerry or the tour of Connemara (or even both of them), and don't bother with Limerick.

That would leave you with time and scope to have a better look at what you do visit, and opportunity to act on caprice.

Padraig, which one would u recommend skipping the ring of kerry or conemmera?

Padraig Feb 28th, 2007 03:02 PM

I am biased on this one, in that Connemara is one of my favourite places on earth. I feel an need to go there every year (happily, Herself loves the place as much as I do).

I have said here before that I think the Ring of Kerry is overrated, but I know that not everybody agrees with me on this. By far the best bit of the ring is the road between Kenmare and Killarney. We might get forum agreement on that. The trick might be to use Monday to drive out the coast road from Cork all the way to Kenmare (getting a lot of nice stuff on the way) and thence to Killarney.

Most Irish people have a poor enough opinion of Limerick. King John's castle is mildly interesting.
