How do you pronounce "Ljubljana"?

This is a difficult e-mail to respond to, I know. Will be traveling thru "Ljubljana" on way to Venice from Budapest. It would be nice to be able to pronounce the capital city correctly! English phonetics would be helpful. I don't mean to offend anyone from this part of the world, but I really don't know how to pronounce this.

Signed,

Language Challenged American Tourist

Stayed with friends there for a week in 1990 and the locals all pronounced it to us very close to what the person above wrote:

Lou blee yan ah

From a quote in Fodor's Europe Guide, "The capital of the republic of Slovenia is on occasion referred to as "Ljubljana the beloved," a play on words: Ljubljena means "beloved"; change one letter, and you have the name Ljubljana."

But I haven't felt condident pronouncing it until now, so thank-you very much, posters! I'm spending a week in June in Slovenia with a small group tour (www.adventurecenter.com), hiking and sightseeing, then followed with a couple days in Vienna on my own.

I'm also presently interested in the trip Rex is contemplating for Italy in October so we will see how that progresses.
