How do you Pronounce Fodor's?

Hello everyone! Silly Question here, but I've always wondered how do you pronounce Fodor's...

Is it:
Foders like rhymes with doe (deer) and foe (enemy) "Foe-ders"
or,
Foders like cannon fodder "Fawh-ders"

Thanks,
Rebecca

There was another post on one of the forums asking this.

Foders like rhymes with doe (deer) and foe (enemy) "Foe-ders"

For me is with 2 open "o".

caroline_edinburgh Oct 5th, 2006 03:24 AM

I'd say "Foe-doors". Do people really say "Foe-ders" ?

Cimbrone Oct 5th, 2006 03:35 AM

Oh gosh, I say "Foe-ders." But the British can't expect the same crisp diction of us Americans :)

Well, add me to the "foe-DOORS" category.

Perhaps the Moderator can help us here (though I don't know that I could ever retrain myself to pronounce it differently.)

In the past there was a mention by the editors that Fodor's rhymes with motors.(Actually it would be odors.)

And I remember Rex recommended rhyming it with "loaders" and this makes sense to me.

FOE-doors

Dukey Oct 5th, 2006 05:33 AM

Doug, is that "official" or just one person's opinion?

RebeccaYouSee Oct 5th, 2006 06:06 AM

Well, thanks to the Editor and everyone. I'm officially in-the-know.
The word is "Fodor's", emphasis on FO and rhymes with Odors.

Excellent feedback all, and thanks for the info! Off to re-read FOE-Doors Italy 2006 to plan our next daytrip.

A cynic might think the tone of some threads suggests "Foe-duhs".

WhineConnoisseur Oct 5th, 2006 07:55 AM

I have a Foders language tape and in the introduction the speaker pronounces it to rhyme with odors.

That is not how I had pronouced it all these years :)

caroline_edinburgh Oct 9th, 2006 03:29 AM

Confused now, people seem to be implying the pronounce "odors" as "oh-doors" ??

RebeccaYouSee Oct 10th, 2006 11:24 PM

Reviewing the Editor's suggestion, emphasis on the first sylable, "FO" (rhymes with Doe) and dors, said more quickly, not exactly like a DOOR.

So, to close off, to each his own, Fodors, like odors, opens many doors.

"Foe-duhs".....good one, PatrickLondon. :)

JeanneB Oct 11th, 2006 04:39 AM

Well, I'm still not sure. Let's try this...

Would one say "FOE-ders" (last syllable sounds like the end of "odors" or "loaders")?

Or is it "FOE-dores" (last syllable sounds like "doors")?

NeoPatrick Oct 11th, 2006 05:21 AM

I suppose it depends upon who is saying it. Not everyone pronounces "odors" quite the same for that matter, some putting more emphasis on the "or" and some saying it more like "ers" than "ors".
