An example of the need for some plans. Travel insurance including health insurance is essential. You are young and healthy but you could be hit by a bus. You only have a total of 90 days in any 180 days in the Schengen zone. If you have a ton of money then going with nothing booked and nothing planned may work, but this is Europe not South America or Asia, and things are expensive and popular and crowded, trains get full, as do hostels and hotels and festivals. As for making friends just be open, chat to people, but accept not everyone will want to converse. I am sure with the right attitude, and a little planning you will have a wonderful trip. |

Agree to disagree. That’s the whole point of backpacking. I want the raw adventure, not an overplanned journey on the tourist circuit.
From your first thread it seems you've not been before and base much of your knowledge on some viral videos. If one is young and seems to be a 'back packer' they may stopped by Border authorities and asked to show 1) proof of accommodations, 2) enough money to cover all expenses, 3) an onward ticket, and 4) insurance. If not able to produce same -- they will be put on a plane back home. |
If someone is fishing around with no firm plan or even just fantasizing who am I to scold or refuse to participate in what-ifs. Planning and anticipation is most of the fun. This poster has been given lots of advice and perspective but youth does not know the meaning of "failure" and if he/she strikes out with nothing but a backpack and a Rick Steves book....what the heck. It will be memorable, no matter what happens. Maybe it's a dream. Who cares. I'll keep chiming in, sounds interesting to me.

It was satire....I find the younger generation is kinda ironically-challenged. ☮️

I don't 🤣. My wife loves to talk to random strangers on vacation which I hate, so I just pretend I don't know her when she does it and keep walking. Makes her so mad.

I don't buy this story for a minute -- but if you want a guide to sort of trip you're proposing, may I suggest

Janis, we were in troll territory two days ago when OP argued with several longtime members, one of which she called a name (although fairly innocuous) to the overuse of the phrase "triggered" to once again increased aggression. The irony that the OP herself is so easily triggered.
I also find it awfully ironic that the OP has asked how to make friends while traveling when she has not done a very good job making friends with the very people here giving her free advice. Me thinks OP is looking for validation and attention. |

You could get the app, "Make friends while traveling solo", supposedly aimed at women. https://travelladies.app/ It might just be clickbait, you can decide. |
if the other person has a dog, then you have an easy in
