I love chili cheese fries, or just cheese fries. Then there's the classic fries, which I drown in ketchup and eat with a fork. I also like Ranch dressing on fries. But my all-time favorite was the Flemish stew I had in Brugge. For anyone who hasn't had it yet, it's sorta like a thick beef stew over crispy fries. Of course, the best thing about Flemish stew is being in Belguim when you eat it.

This thread has made me very hungry. I'm off to get a snack.

The absolute best french fries in the world are in Capri. I had them at three different restaurants and they were unbelievable! NO CONDIMENTS NEEDED. If you are ever there try them b/c they aren't like that elsewhere in Italy, or USA for that matter. Must be the soil in which they are grown. Otherwise, I am a ketchup or malt vinegar FF eater.

OMG, I almost forgot...was at dinner with some business associates in South Beach and ordered some fries for the table that were done in truffle oil. The scent when they placed them down on the table drove us crazy! Insane! Magnificent!

Oh< I'm so glad that someone finally mentioned malt vinegar. Mmm. and lots of salt. And of course, they must be fresh cut.
Mayo? I've never tried that, but it sounds good.

Scarlett, a sandwich with french fries as the filling. Oh boy, that would work for me!!!!!!!

Which reminds me, how many of you have seen in Italy an "Americano Pizza"?

It is a pizza with french fries on top, than smothered with cheese. The first I saw this I was with friends, their 15 year old son ordered it. He said "I like your American Pizza". I said "what!?!? And arrive it did, pizza, tomato sauce, french fries and cheese. I didn't have the heart to tell him "Americano pizza, I don't think so". But since than I have thought "well why not". I love french fries with anything.

But has anyone ever encountered this type of pizza?

Just reading all the french fry varities I am drooling.

Thick-cut fries that are crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, dipped in aioli.

Chili fries, gravy fries, pomme fritts, all delicious! If you have In & Out Burgers, their fries have the skins on and are wonderful!

1. Called by their proper name
2. Then humped onto junk bread (spread with marge), doused in salt and malt vinegar (though balsamic or sherry vinegar will do at a pinch), and covered with another slice of junk bread. A soft, flour-covered, bap will do if you've no junk bread.

Nothing beats a chip butty.

Wow, this is a great thread as I am a lover of french fries, I've even dreamed of french fries on occasion. Favs are Islands ff with ranch, good ol McD's. Always thin and crispy, never w/ ketchup. Pommes frites w/ steak, chili cheese fries (once a decade). I've never tried moules frites, is this just mussels served with fries? Sounds delicious.

Thin and crispy -with Heinz Ketchup.

I had always loved McD fries until I went to France, and had *their* french fries... it was cooked to perfection. OMG ... I was in heaven

I love the poutine I had in the Laurentians in Quebec. They were twice fried and soft, smothered with cheese curds and gravy. Near the bottom, when the cheese and gravy ran out, I sprinkled them with malt vinegar and salt.

I like my fries while sitting in a bistro in Paris.

Otherwise, Thrasher's Fries off the boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach ... with vinegar and salt.

Hi love,

Yes, we saw Italians eating pizza and FF and, unbelieveably, with FF on top when we visited Italy last Oct.

Scarlett-

In New Orleans you can, indeed, order a french fry po' boy (a sub roll filled with fries, brown gravy, mayo, shredded lettuce, tomatoes and pickles.) It is a fabulous, anti-Atkins treat.

I grew up eating fries with gravy in Baltimore, and Thrasher's fries with malt vinegar and salt at Ocean City, MD in the summers.

Then I went to college in Philly and discovered cheese fries and pizza fries (fries smothered in pizza sauce and mozzarella).

I adore an "assiette des frites" in a Paris cafe, but the absolute best fries I've ever had were at Jacques Bar in Paia, Maui.

Or what about the garlic fries at a little bar in North Beach in San Fran (can't remember the name but they were so good.)

I think I should start listing fries as one of my hobbies...

Always thin cut, always crispy, and always with mayo.

I will admit to loving chili cheese fries, as well, but haven't had those in eons.
