How do you insert those neat little icons in your messages?
 

Please don't be upset that I posted this here.
I did do a search for the instructions but I can't find the answer.

I know how to do the smiles with my keyboard but what about the other icons I see ya'll use? Is there a special program?

Just type a series of characters as shown next to the item and it shows in your post.

How do you know what the less-obvious icons mean?

Underhill, if you right click on the icon, then click "Properties," a box will appear that contains the "name" of the icon. You can usually figure it out from that.

It appears to be right! ((a)) ((b))

I saw the names and wonder what the "_png" means.

It's probably something obvious...
