Watching French news every night. Listening to Radio Périgord whenever I can. Sleeping every night under a rich yellow bouti with matching shams that I bought in Uzès. Cooking with olive oil from the Mas des Barres nightly. Showering with lavender oil gel, using lavendar face and hand cream from the same, and even doing my dishes with lavendar-scented dish liquid. Reading everything I can get my hands on from France, including email newsletters, magazines, and books. Getting together with francophile friends for dinners, brunches, and coffee or tea. Watching TV shows about France and French cooking. Talking to friends in France. Wearing clothes and shoes I've bought in France. Making French meals almost every night, with ingredients I bought in France or places around the DC area that sell French products.
Actually, now that I think of it, it's true what my kids say - "our mom was French in a previous life."

Charlieg, I have a web site that lists all the French stations which are available on the web; unfortunately, this list is at home, and I am out of town. I will try to find it and post when I get home.

In the meantime, two stations that I listen to are www.tsfjazz.com and www.nostalgie.fr. The first is a jazz station. You can listen by clicking on "ecoutez l'antenne". The second is an oldies station, playing both French and American oldies, as well as French covers of American oldies, which can be fun. You can listen by clicking on "Ecoutez la radio" on the upper right hand corner of the screen.

There's really only one way ... go to Paris. Hence we do one time annually, and that helps. But we missed in 2000, and it still haunts us. Unfortunately, our recent visit in '05 was only a brief one, to see friends, and now we have this awful urge to go back this spring, but that cannot happen. Too many conflicts. So, the answer is once a year if possible.

All of you have made me feel so much better. I thought I was the only one as obsessed with Paris as I am.

I also get Leeds(Parlor Paris) newsletter, Bonjour Paris, just started viewing www.abcparislive.com.

I ordered French tapes via Amazon.com. They should be arriving shortly. I went to VirtualTourist where Beatchick posts a lot of things. Thank you Beatchick.

I even bought 2 books. The first one "French Women Don't Get Fat". That should be coming with my French tapes. The other book can't remember the title but it's all about dressing with style. By a French author of course.

Nikki and Cigalechanta: Thanks for the recomendations and directions. I'm listening to www.nostalgie.fr. and loving it.

Thanks Nikki!

And, like mentioned above. You tell someone you're going to Paris. And they say, "haven't you been there before?"

Obviously, they've never been or they would understand. Wish you could bottle the stuff. ;)

Perlier honey creme bath, I smell it and think of Paris!

Beatchick Aug 19th, 2005 02:32 PM

Nikki, I have Paris Combo, too! We'll have to compare notes when we get together in Paris in February with Mimi!

February is much too far away...

Robespierre Aug 19th, 2005 03:27 PM

Watch the TV news!

Boston area fodorites - Paris Combo will be at the Somerville Theater on November 4th. Buy tickets on ticketmaster or worldmusic.org

Nikki Aug 19th, 2005 11:29 PM

opaldog, you obviously remember my anguish last year when you told us about the Paris Combo concert after the fact. Thank you so much!

opaldog Aug 20th, 2005 03:04 AM

You're welcome Nikki. We won't be going this time, we'll be traveling South. We also had such a great concert last time; we were 1st row, front and center. Don't know how we managed that as we are not members of world music which claimed that those seats were for members only. It was such a great music experience and so Parisian. Enjoy it.

a slight twist on what has already been said: we go through pictures (or endless bags of ephemra) find a dinner that we had in Paris and then try to cook the exact food and serve it in the exact way (that may mean shopping for dishes). Prepare the meal, put on the french radio, turn the lights down low, light candles and try just for a moment to believe.....

Nikki Aug 25th, 2005 03:11 PM

Hey Seafox, I like your style (that may mean shopping for dishes!). Can I come to dinner?

And I have added a new favorite radio station since my stay in Albi last month: www.radioalbiges.com

They play jazz and French songs, with a sprinkling of eclectic shows and no commercials (although French commercials can be fun to try to decipher).

I watch "Forget Paris" and laugh at Billy Crystal and Debra Winger and get misty over the lovely Paris scenes.
