How do you get from Tiburtina station to Termini?
 

The bus from Siena to Rome leaves you at Tiburtina station. I then have to get to the airport - FCO. In order to get the train to the airport that runs from Termini station, I was told I need to take a train from Tiburtina to Termini. Is this the subway(the metropolitana)I would be taking from Tiburtina to Termini?

I will have some luggage and I don't think I want to take it on the subway. I thought - with luggage - I might be better off taking a TRAIN (rather than bus) from Siena to Rome - even though you have to make a connection to another train at Chiusi(sp.?)-because then that train will leave you at Termini station where I can pick up the train to FCO. Any advice? Thanks.

No problem. Get off the bus from Siena outside of the Tiburtina Station. Enter the station. Purchase a one way ticket for Fiumicino Airport on the commuter train DIRECT from Tiburtina (this train DOES NOT stop at Termini, it goes direct to Fiumicino airport after stopping briefly at Ostiense, Trastevere and a few outlying stations). Ticket costs Euro 4.70, it leaves every 15 minutes (30 mins. on Sundays), and takes 40 minutes to reach the airport train station. THIS IS NOT THE NONSTOP TRAIN FROM TERMINI TO THE AIRPORT.

Thanks, GAC. I was told by hotel to take the airport train from Termini. If I can get to the airport from Tiburtina, it saves me a step. Thanks again.

GAC: I think I read somewhere that this train from Tiburtina that passes through Ostiense and Trastavere goes through some neighborhoods that are possibly not safe for visitors. Do you know if this is true? I thought maybe that is why the hotel told me to go to Termini station instead.

Unless you will be taking the train from Tiburtina at night you needn't worry.

I posted the information about the bad neighborhoods where the Tiburtina/FCO train stops. Just be on guard for suspicious persons, don't travel at night, and you'll be OK.

I didn't realize there was a bus direct from Rome to Sienna. What are the pros and cons on bus vs. train from Rome to Sienna? I realize the bus is probably slower but scenery might be better? Also, anybody know about the stops in between?
Good luck on your airport connection. It sounds pretty painless.

There's no direct train between Rome and Siena (one "n"). You can take the central Rome-Florence line and change in either Chiusi or Florence, or you can take the coast line and change in Grosseto. So travel time by train is going to be at least two hours plus a layover.

Let's say :
- once off the bus move towards the railway station which is just under the road flyover, other tavellers will probably follow the same route while going to the underground station.
- main station entrance will be , across the road, on your right;
- if there's a queue at the tickets office, buy train tickets at the newsstand or at the tobacconist;
- Tiburtina become unpleasant after 9/10pm as many homeless use the area to spend the night.

It is true, there are homeless at the Tiburtina Station.

But, we took it everyday and night from Tiburtina to Termini with no problem. It is only about (5) stops.

We were there all hours of the night.

It's like anything else, you do not walk around like you are afraid. There is nothing to be afraid about.

Hopefully, the Italians do not go on strike.
