How do you get from Italy to Naxos?
 

Trying to find a ferry/boat anything that will go from Italy. We will be dropping the car off in Rome, but are willing to take a bus/train to any port.

I've never travelled from Rome to Naxos, but I would think that flying might be your best option.

Alitalia and Olympic have flights to Naxos with a stop in Athens. Air France makes 2 stops.

Ferry service from Athens to Naxos takes anywhere from 3 to 7 hours, depending on the boat speed, number of stops, route, etc.

Just taking a wild guess, I think a ferry from Italy (Bari? Ancona?) to Athens would take almost 24 hours, and then you'd still have to get to Naxos.

Fly to Athens---the boat option will take more than 2 days.

There are ferries from Bari and Brindisi that will get you to Corfu in 11 hrs and 9 hrs respectively. From Corfu it is a short hop by ferry to Paxos, and island you mentioned in your other post.

You can also go to Patras, on mainland Greece, then travel overland to Athens for ferries to the Cyclades, but that would be a long, arduous journey.

Another option, as mentioned above, is a flight from Rome to Athens. From there you can go to Piraeus for ferries to Naxos and other islands in the Cyclades.

Which to choose depends upon budget and flight availability. I can't advise you on transport from Rome to Bari or Brindisi, though.

From Roma, the most direct route is by train to Bari, then on Superfast's overnight ship to Patra (www.superfast.com). There is a connecting bus from the quayside in Patra to Pireas where you can get a ferry to Naxos or any other island in the Aegean.

Hi Nazz - There are direct charter flights to Mykonos and Santorini from Rome on 11 July.

These can be booked through the Italian travel companies Inviaggi or Ventaglio.
(The airline they use for these flights is Livingston, I believe).

Naxos is 45 mins by fast ferry/catamaran from Mykonos (- or 2hrs+ from Santorini).

Here's another possibility: Take a train or bus from Rome to Bari, then fly the rest of the way to Athens on myair.com.
