How do you find out how many times a person has posted? (Other than manually counting)

A while back--I think it was on the Europe Board--someone figured out a way to find out how many times or how many threads a person has posted on since registration. And it wasn't done manually!

I was going to use this tool as a trivia game at an upcoming GTG in Honolulu (which you're all invited to, of course).

If I click on your name all your postings come up on the left column.

Well, if I google your Fodors name, I get 655 hits for MelissaHI. If I then enter Fodors in the "search within results" section, I get 603 hits.
Is that about right?

That's not entirely accurate. That will reflect the posting only back a certain period. When I click on my name, none of my 2002 (or 3?) posts appear - but if I put in a key word from those posts they will usually come up.

well, they may not include pre-registration posts. But the Fodors count for pre-registration isn't accurate either. I've put in my name and not found some of my pre-reg posts that I saw come up on other searches.

I'm sure there is an easier way, but click on your screen name and when it appears in the lefthand column, right click on your name and click open in a new window. This will make a narrow column appear in the center. At the top, you will see the thread has your name and the number 0 at the end. Change to zero to a random number of posts you think you might have. Try 1000 or 1500. It might take several tries, changing the end number and hitting enter, but is much faster than clicking back every 50 posts. Only took me a minute to come up with 1350 posts for you dating back to 3/22/2000 with your first post on the Latin America board. This only shows the number of threads you have responded to, not the number of posts.

I think Rex knows a simpler way so maybe he will respond.

Thanks for showing us how to do this - I still couldn't make it work all the way back for me - but I did get back to 1/27/2003.

That's PERFECT. thank you!

BTW if you will be in Honolulu August 28, please come to a GTG at Seoul Garden! This is being organized by the folks on the Asia board. I don't post there but they welcome all posters.

Is there anyway to tell if someone is the OP or has just posted a reply without going through each one?

Brahmama - It took you back to registration. Did you have a different name before? That post appears to have part of the day with names that weren't registered and then later in the day, they were. Were you Brah in the earlier part of the post? If so, you will need to search that name.

Travelaway - This forum doesn't have the mark as read feature. If you click on the OP's name, you will get all their posts in the lefthand column, but it can be anyone's response bringing it to the top of the column, not just the OP's.

Nothing currently implemented by the website software would allow this, to the best of my knowledge.

It seems like it would not be difficult, though I am not sure why it would serve Fodors to put effort into making it happen.

Still, write to them, and ask for their thoughts on it...

Wow, thanks guys! Never knew how to do that. I have 1446 since 2003. Is that when Fodors required requistation? I've been around longer then 2003.

If you used your e-mail address (as visible) before registration, it is still searchable, even though it does not display - - and if you have a consistent, and "unique" word or name in your e-mail address, then you can search pre- and since registration at the same time by doing a text search (as opposed to clicking on your own name).

I have always been "rbmd" here, and this allows me to search from 1999 forward (when I first came here).

I am approaching 12000, going on seven years this fall.

Thanks KyBourbon:
I had used Brah at the beginning, but had forgotten (doh)
So using your idea, I got back to :
12/17/02

And Rex - I had stupidly put in an email address (visible) when I first started posting, but that brought up a few too.

Thanks for the help, and MelissaHi - have a great GTG in Hawaii!
