How do you entertain yourself on the plane?
With these long flights to Europe, I can be on the plane up to 12 hours.
I listen to Ipod, read something,do crosswords, and people watch (always good on a flight from USA to Europe)
I dont sleep real well on planes.

I usually attempt to bring a good book, try and sleep, or watch an in-flight movie.
When I have my children, I get them involved in making puppets out of the 'puke' bags! We have a nice collection of them!

I play with my snakes. Slippery devils, sometimes they escape ;-)
Actually, if the flight is smooth, I read or watch the little map of how far we've come. If it's bumpy, then I just keep very still and wait for the flight to be over.
I NEVER watch Will Smith movies on planes because everytime I do, we hit turbulence.

I drink ......
I also listen to books on tape - long and serious histories are great for taking the mind off the turbulence and eventually send me to sleep.
I bring my own movies, as the appalling movies generally shown on flights make me want to head for the nearest exit.

First off I look around to see if any of the passengers are nuns with guitars. Then I settle in and try to torture the people around me with mind games (if you read my last report you have an idea).
When I get bored with all of this I read a magazine or 12.

I read. I usually bring a meaty book, and buy something at the airport, like a magazine. I always have a guidebook in my carry-on so I read that, too.
My west to east flights are always at night, so I get on board, take a sleeping pill, eat the nasty dinner, read and try to sleep.
On the way home, I bring good snacks and plenty of them, and fly the USAirways airbus if I can do that. They have a good selection of in flight entertainment with your own seatback screen, so I watch as many movies as I can. Since I never go to Hollywood movies, this usually is good for me, and I see a lot of things that I would never have otherwise paid attention to.
Lots to eat of the good food of whatever country I've just been in helps a lot. I've been known to carry a pizza box from Ciccia Bomba in Rome onto the plane home.

I watch all the movies and shorts, listen to all the various music or comedy program on the headsets, eat any meals or snacks served, have quite a few cocktails, read magazines (can't concentrate enough for reading a book) or short stories, if it's an overnighter when they turn down the lights, I put on headphones and eye mask and pretend to sleep (even though I never do, I find this serves me better than figiting around all "night").

1. Paint nails - any nails - fingers, toes - mine other passengers
2. Find babies in nappies/diapers and change them on the seat
3. Ask people whether my electrical appliances will work in Europe with or without an adapter
4. Take a survey on the advantaages of TC vs cash vs credit
5. Worry about whether any Americans on the plane will be subjected to ill feeling in Europe
6. If going to England, hope that I get one edible meal...

I save a month's worth of NYT's Sunday
X- words plus lottsa magazines and an
engrossing novel IF I can find one.
However, sooner than later I start to
get itchy feet and the (air)terminal
boredom tales over - if only I could
sleep! Next month it's Vancouver-London
-Naples-Palermo and I'm thinkin' it may
be time to try Ambien or suchlike.
