How do Sestri Levante and Portovenere compare to Levanto?

We need to stay in the Cinque Terre area in October, and as I know two people who have actually been to Levanto and LOVE it, that is where I was planning to stay. However, I'm having trouble getting hotel reservations. Apparently there's a big race that weekend. The hotel I have booked is in the hills above town, and we won't have a car. The hotel has a shuttle, but I'm thinking that may be too much of a hassle.

I can find hotels in the other two towns. Another town in that area would be fine as well.

Is Levanto charming enough that it will be worth the shuttle hassle?

Well, too bad about Levanto. Sestri is too far from the CT and Portovenere is not really good without a car. What happened to Monterosso? Given your situation I would go there.

Try Hotel Garden in Levanto.

Levanto is convenient and has more services than Monterosso or any of the other Cinque Terre.

We are just finishing some shows about the area - it is truly great.

Did you ask how long the shuttle is down to the port or train station?

Have you checked the towns of Santa Margherita Ligure and Camogli? They're both on the trsin line to the CT -- and nice places in themselves.

Hi Kate,

We stayed in CT last year. If you are planning on spending your time exploring CT, I would either in Monterosso or Vernazza. I cannot compare them to Levanto, but they are both charming and beautiful, and it is easy to catch the train between the five towns.

Have fun.

Thanks for the help. I was able to find a room in Monterosso (their last room), and I think we will do that as it will be more convenient. It's only 5 minutes by train to Levanto anyway.
