how do i make a phone call to europe.

How do I make a phone call to Germany, Paris, Switzerlan..etc..? I know this is a stupid question but the numbers are set up differntly than ours and I cannnot make anything work. example +49(0)69 719126-268/261.

P.s. I am dialing from a land line

Dial 011 first, then the number.

Only if you're in the US. This is the code to get out of the US.

You need different prefix numbers if you're in another country.

You wouldn't use both 268 and 261; either one. Perhaps one is a phone and one is a fax.

Also, when calling from outside the country you don't use the (0) in front of the city code. That's for dialing from within the country where the number is located. That's why it's in parenthesis. Use it inside the country, don't use it outside the country.

or

The U.S. has what is known as a "dumb" telephone system. All phone numbers are 7 digits plus the area code.

Europe has a "smart" phone system, where each number lets the phone company zero into the specific number called.

This is why the lengths of phone numbers are different in each city/country.
