How do I insert a web link into my post? For example, a link to Ofoto.

First I will apologize for asking a question that I know has been asked before (I remember asking ages ago). Anyway, I did various searches and came up empty handed. Please help!

I think the only way to do it is to type in the URL. Then the reader has to copy and paste it. There are no hot links other that internal ones that go to Fodors pages. Someone correct me if this info is in error.

You don't have to type the URL, you can copy/paste it in.... but then it has to be copy/pasted from the post to the browser - it won't be a 'hot link' as mentioned.

Thank you.

For Ofoto, send a share an album with yourself and then copy that URL into your Fodors message.

Robespierre Feb 7th, 2005 07:18 AM

Obviously, the Fodors script already provides for putting the A HREF behind a link, because they do it for URLs on http://www.fodors.com

But why not do that for all URLs? Whatever they're afraid of, it can be circumvented by cutting and pasting a posted link, so the only effect of disabling links is to force their customers (us) to be inconvenienced by that manual step.

I don't get it.

Michael -- so, I share my photos with myself, at my email address; then copy that URL? Sorry if I'm being dense.

Hi tries,

>...I share my photos with myself, at my email address; then copy that URL?<

Yes.

Ofoto will send you an eml with a link to the album you wish to share.

Highlight that link.
Click "CTRL+C"

Go to your Fodors message and click "CTRL+V"

the V stands for "voila".

OFOTO: don't forget to un-check the box for requiring viewers to register/log in...

Tries2PakLite Feb 7th, 2005 08:16 AM

Thank you all. Now I need to get my photos pulled together.

Tries,
When I am in Ofoto as the owner of the specific web site, the URL is not the same as when it is shared. So I click on "share" and give my own e-mail as the recipient of the shared photos. When you receive the e-mail, you will find the URL which you can paste to shae your photographs. Copy it and paste it in your Fodors message.

<<why not do that for all URLs? Whatever they're afraid of, it can be circumvented by cutting and pasting a posted link>>

URLs can link to mischief of all sorts, from family-inappropriate, to "warez" to spyware-infecting sites. It seems only appropriate that Fodors should not facilitate going to other URLs. Cuting and pasting makes the "surfer" aware that he/she is "going somewhere else".

Best wishes,

Rex

Then Fodor's can intercept the click-through and ask if you want to "go somewhere else." The easiest way to do this is to put the forums on a secure server (https). Then leaving the site will automatically generate a warning.

Or they could post a disclaimer in the user agreement.

This is the only site I know of that prohibits off-site links.
