How do I get to Venice from the airport?
Flying in to Venice in early September. What is the best way to get into Venice (Rialto Bridge area)? Thanks.

You could take a bus to Piazzale Roma and then a vaporetto down the Grand Canal to the Rialto stop. costs = 2 euro for the orange ACTV bus ( a local, about 25 minutes) or 3 euros for the blue ATVO bus (an express, about 20 minutes) plus 6.50 euros for the vaporetto.
You could take the Alilaguna transport boat, 13 euros and about an hour. Linea arrancia (orange) goes to the Rialto. You could take a water private water taxi about 100 euros for up to eight people and luggage and about 30 minutes or so. Pricey but you'll feel like James bond. apparently now there is also a shared water taxi option for 27 euros per person, that works kind of like an airport shuttle. Takes up to eight people and drops then at their hotels. |
Hello jinx. Here is the official website in English for the Marco Polo Venice airport which should help you when you arrive. Have a wonderful time in Venice!

Took the private water taxi once (you can share with other peiple and split the price) and yes it was pricey but oh my goodness was it worth it. The James Bond comment is valid. If it is a romantic trip then I'd say it is your best way to start the trip off well

We took the bus to Piazzale Roma (the end of the line) and the vaporetto stop was right there. Just be aware the bus ride is a long one! Maybe we were just tired, but it seemed endless.

It depends on what you mean by "best".
If you want the most dramatic and convenient get a water taxi at the pier next to the airport. But, it won't be cheap. If cost matters, take the airport bus to Piazzele Roma or train station and get a vaporetto from there. |
Thanks for all the prompt help.

The water taxi is expensive but also one of the most spectacular experiences I've had traveling anywhere. There is a moment when it turns out of the lagoon which is truly incredible.
