How do I call our apartment from CDG airport?
Upon arrival, we need to contact the apartment owner to let her know we have arrived.
She asked that we call her on her cell phone, but I'm not sure how to call her. Are there pay phones in which we can call her, or should we just use our cell phones? She said we could call her either before or after immigrations/customs - which pay phone would you recommend we use? Also, the number she gave is ten digits all together and starts with 06-00-00-00-00(don't want to post the real number). I've only had to call Paris from the US...we don't need to attach any additional numbers to the one she gave us right? |
Sorry - I should have titled it how do we call the "apartment owner"...

Hi Anna1013,
I think I would opt for using your own cell phone because the pay phones in Paris don't take coins, you would first have to purchase a prepaid card and then make the call. To save yourself the hassle of finding a place to buy the cards and then figuring out how to use it in the pay phone minutes after you've landed I would simply call from the cell phone. Layla %%- |
Thanks Layla - I was wondering if coins for the phone would be fine, or if we would need a calling card.
Is the phone reception in CDG good for using cell phones? |
Still have a question if the number I posted above is the exact number to call once in Paris, or do I need to add on a country code, etc.?
|
The 10 digit number you are calling is correct for a cell phone. No need to add or subtract any numbers. If you are calling from CDG you should have good reception on your cell phone, providing you have the appropriate cell phone with 900/1800 service and it has been activated.

The number you have is a cellphone (they all begin with 06) and you do not need to dial any numbers before the ones you have. If you were to call that number from outside of France you would drop the first '0' which is only used within the country.

Thanks jeff49 - are you asking if I have a world phone? If so, we do.
Sheillo, Thanks for the info - we also have her apartment number for backup and it also has a ten-digit number. I'm assuming that we wouldn't need to add/delete any numbers, correct? |
If you dont have the appropriate cell, you can get a calling card. Many of the agencies actually can arrange to send you one (or you can ask them what to do). If you are going to get a cell that will work in Paris anyway, that is fine, but you dont need to buy a cell just because you are renting unless you apt doesnt have a functioning phone.

Assuming you've got a cell phone that you know works in France, use that. And yes, dial the exact numbers you've got. And yes, millions of French people yakking on phones at CDG can't be getting bad connections. Worst-case scenario - you walk outside.
