Just to add my experience to the advice given above - I travelled from France to the UK recently with BA, and I had an E-ticket.

When I made the reservation, the booking agent very specifically told me to make sure I brought the credit card used when I went to check in.

At the time, my boyfriend was planning to pay for my ticket on his credit card, and when I mentioned this to the booking agent she told me that he would therefore have to accompany me to check in.

In the end I used my own credit card to pay for the tickets, but BA did request it when I went to check in.

I've used e-tickets about 5 separate times, and usually NOT paid by my credit card. My mother or father has paid for them in the past (I didn't have a credit card with anything higher than a $500 limit). I have never been asked to show the credit card. I have, however, been asked to show photo ID, and that is required anyhow.

I always print my itinerary as the best proof I have that I indeed have the tickets. Once they couldn't find my second leg in the computer, but after showing them the itinerary, they found it using the reservation number.
