How Convenient is the Orange Bus Positano/Praiano?

Debating on whether to stay in Praiano at Le Sirene or Positano at Casa Albertina. The two key factors are cost and convenience. Le Sirene is less than 1/2 the cost of Casa Albertina.

However, I have stayed in Praiano before (and loved it), but have yet to visit Positano. I am planning a day trip to Ravello and Amalfi, and another to Paestum and wanted to use the ferry one-way for both.

So, is the savings worth the extra transit leg each time? How easy is it? I know the Le Sirene is near the Praiano bus stop.

Ira, I know you have the exact answer!

Grazie!

Dayle - You can find timetables for the Orange bus on:

http://www.flaviogioia.com/news/defa...amp;id_cat=238

Positano (Piazza dei Mulini) - Praiano takes about 20 mins.

Praiano - Positano takes rather longer - esp. in high season
[- the bus follows the top road as far as Chiesa Nuova, then follows the one-way system down to Piazza dei Mulini]
It's quicker to get off at the top and walk down ...

.....

Praiano-Amalfi is only about 20 mins by bus - so time-wise it doesn't make much sense to go via Positano.

If you do, it will add to your journey time, of course - but it's a very scenic boat trip.

Positano-Amalfi by ferry takes about 25 mins, (- less by hydrofoil).
You can find ferry timetables on:

http://www.salernocity.com/comune/tr...i/costiera.asp

.....

For Paestum you could take the ferry one way Amalfi-Salerno - or vice versa (- see above link for timetables) - and continue to Paestum from Salerno by train (www.trenitalia.com) or bus (www.cstp.it).

Train is a little quicker (- but you have a 10 mins walk from Paestum station ...) whereas the bus drops you near the entrance to the site.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Hi dayle,

Steve has said it all.

If you are saving 100E/day by staying at Le Sirene it is well worth the 20 min ride to Positano.

You could afford a cab to Paestum.

Dayle, Have you considered Villa La Tartana in Positano? I have stayed at Casa Albertina and the steps are a killer.

Thanks so much guys! Exactly the info I was looking for. You are the best!

Bob, I'm not too worried about all the steps although I know they can get old fast. How was Casa Albertina otherwise?

I checked the Villa Tartano web site and it looks nice. Same price range as Casa Albertina. Alarming close to the church! Do the bells wake you up every morning???
