I suppose the classic thing is to teach English as a foreign language - but I think you need lots of teaching experience to get a job in Western Europe, however Eastern Europe's easier. Other than that, all I can think of is to get a diplomatic/embassy job or something with the EU/UN (Geneva?)/ Nato (Brussels)

My husband is a contract engineer and we've lived all over the world. I suggest you check with a contract agency that deals with the financial sector. As far as "best" that depends on what your interests are. Right now we're living in Switzerland which is right in line with our interests (snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking). Lots of financial institutions in Zurich.

Check out the Civilian Human Resources Management Agency (CHRMA) website at the following address:

http://www.chrma.hqusareur.army.mil/

You will get an idea of what kind of jobs are available to Americans overseas. There have been financial management jobs listed on this website recently.

Or get a job with an Amer. corp. with European offices that sends people over to work, i.e., doesn't just hire locals. Shouldn't be too hard in the financial industry.

If you want to know the ins and outs of settling in Europe, go to the travel section in Borders or Barnes & Noble. There are a number of books on exactly this subject--living and working in Europe. Look in the general travel section or in the general Europe travel section.

Guy:

When I was in my late 20's(many years ago), I worked for the US Army in Service Clubs (recreation centers) on Army bases. Did this 2 yrs in Germany and one year in Korea. Fabulous experience. Would not appeal to everyone, however. You live in military housing (free), get sent over free, and have a US salary. Access to officers' clubs, etc. Your time is free except the 40 hrs a week you work. At that time, they hired only women but I'm sure that must have changed by now. Check it out!
