How bad will it bee
 

Leaving for Europa in a few days wanting to know anyone who has visited reciently and HOW BAD will the expense be. We are not big consumers so on adv. what should we expect for daily cost. Yes we will have a car. Tks. Len

Define Europa... Define Bad...

It's going to vary widely from place to place and based on your tastes (in food, entertainment, etc.).

I didn't find it all that bad on several recent trips.

On a trip this summer to Europe I spent $250/night on hotel - much less than I've spent on previous trips. Got a nice deal on an air/hotel package.

Meals averaged about $100 per person per day - some excellent restaurants. Again, less than in the past since we didn't splurge.

Costs in Europe have been raising slowly. Day to day changes are occurring. Many of the changes are beneficial. Low paid workers are getting a bit more and new jobs are being created. Europe is not the problem; It is not unreasonable to expect the Euro to double in value within a year. The USA has to quit spending money it is borrowing. Gaslene, petrol or benzine! You can expect to pay $8 a gallon.

Ok, over the past year the dollar exchange rate has dropped from about 1.35:1 to 1.40:1. If you put that into perspective, that is 5 cents per euro or about 4%.

Gas prices here have fluctuated between $2.50 and $3.12 per gallon, a variation of over 60 cents or about 15%. Did that really alter your lifestyle?

The $1,000 we spent last year will now cost us $1,040, big deal. While the combined increases over time do add up, this uptick isn't so much. Did it bother you that the dollar v euro was at 1.37 just a month ago?

If 10% variation can dramatically alter a vacation plan, then that plan needs to be reconsidered, don't you agree?

But really - daily costs will be what you decide they are. if you are on a tight budget you just cut back - picnics instead of fancy lunches, etc. I make the trips fit my budget, not the other way around.

You really must provide more info. If you are going into the countryside of Romania...that would be one cost...if you are going to Knightsbridge in London that would be another TOTALLY different cost.

Paris & Rome will be more expensive than Munich. You can control what you spend by what and where you consume. Plenty of street vendors selling economico food. In Paris you can eat sandwiches and ethnic food which can be as low as 4-5 euro.
