How are you celebrating St. Patrick's Day

After work, I'll be with family enjoying corned beef and cabbage dinner...it's a tradition.

I posted a little historical info on St. Patrick & St. Patrick's Day at
http://www.irishfireside.com

How are you spending St. Patrick's Day?

With our traditional Irish 7 course meal: a six pack (Negra Modelo here) and a boiled potato.

Just ONE boiled potato? Is there a potato famine I'm unaware of?

Hosting a card party. It's a first but it sounds like fun. Ofcourse there will be plenty of corned beef and cabbage.
Happy Saint Patrick's Day

We had our corned beef and cabbage and boiled potatoes last night (meat is very tender if you cook it in the crockpot all day). Tonight we are going to watch a female cousin in a professional boxing match in Albany. I heard they will have some Irish dancers in the ring, hopefully jigging, not boxing.

By definition, if you've not been watching the Gold Cup this afternoon your Irish credentials are pretty suspect.

War of Attrition won.

And the second and third were Irish as well - the first time on record it's ever happened.

Something they'll be celebrating with a lot more champagne than Guinness

Our celebration is a little different. Since my husband and I met on St. Patrick's Day (39 years ago), we like to go out for a fancy, romantic dinner.

Ha, Dekoder,
We're off to the Jersey Giant in a few minutes.

Having spent 11 years in an expat Irish boarding school (where they used to fly in fresh shamrock for us to wear on the lapels of our school blazers every St. Paddy's day), it's now tradition to have a Guinness or 3 every March 17th.

It's my understanding that St Paddie's day celebrations really began, in the party-like mania, in the U.S. and only recently have been mimicked in Dublin and Ireland. Is this true?

I am in Boston and that is what they are claiming on the radio this morning that it began here along with the corned beef and cabbage. Will atempt to get into one of the Irish pubs in the area in about a half hour. The Black Rose had people lined up before 6:00AM when they opened. The first 100 got free breakfast and the Dropkick Murphy's are playing. There are at least 6 Irish pubs in a 2 block area. Let the Guinness flow!

I expected to find more folks like me who report they will be glued to their TV's watching the NCAA basketball tournament.

You're all making me hungry and thirsty!

Happy St. Patrick Day from a cold wet windy Dublin. Its just getting dark and for those energetic enough Dublin should be partying tonight. Have a good day wherever you all are!

It is a beautiful day in NYC and I can hear the bagpipes from my office window from the parade on 5th Avenue. I will be in the East Village at Ryan's Irish Pub in about 2 hours drinking a Harp. My husband will be drinking Guiness. Happy Day.

We celebrated last Saturday at our parish's annual party. This year I was on the party committe. While we were working someone noted that a majority of the volunteers were Italian. We had the only St.Patrick's party were you could hear someone say"Anthony tell your brother Carmine to bring out more corned beef and cabbage for the buffet".

We're going skiing for the weekend, meeting up with my grown son and his girlfriend. It will be the one time a year I enjoy a Guinness. . .

I'll be mostly watching Doctor Who on the Sci-Fi channel with a few drinks in town beforehand where I'll be trying to convince the locals (with very little, if any, evidence to back it up) that St Patrick was born, raised and kidnapped in Wigan, Lancashire.

We were in Rome a few years ago during St. Patrick's Day. We couldn't sleep (and we were in an interior room) due to the loud partying at the Irish pub across the street from our hotel (not far from the Coloseum/Forum area). The tradition is universal.

We spent this evening watching a Rick Steves Ireland video and drinking a couple of pints of Guinness. We off for vacation in the morning and didn't want to stay up late!
