I'm leaving in 3 1/2 weeks, so no I haven't done it yet. Go on viamichelin.com and you can find a good map of the train station, fields and the gardens. You can find your way with this map! I printed it out.

That's right, Hillegom "station" is a platform in the middle of the bulb fields. It is about 3 miles north of Keukenhof. Tiptoe through those tulips, please!!!

I printed the map, thanks Images! I'll do my best to complete the trek and report back before you go... Or, you may find my sister and I still aimlessly wandering the fields when you get there yourself!

Thanks so much Amy!! Have a great time. We fly to Amsterdam April 21 and will be gone 3 weeks! After 8 days in Holland we go to Prague, then Southern France.

When will you be in the tulip fields?

On April 21 they have the Bloemencorso flower parade. Here's the website for this: www.bloemencorso.info

We hope to stop in Haarlem on April 22 and see the floats before heading onto Delft where we're spending the first 4 nights, doing day trips from here.

I hope your trip is wonderful!

Images, we leave the 11th and return the 19th, and we're spending the entire week in Amsterdam and doing a few daytrips outside the city. I'm not sure which day we'll be in the tulips yet, we're sort of playing it by ear and waiting to see how the weather is. I should definitely be able to post something by the time you leave!

I've been to Prague as well, you will love that. I can only imagine how pretty it will be at this time of year.

You'll be there at a great time, since the tulips seem to be early. Missing Queen's Day though. We'll be in Amsterdam for several days, still day tripping some, and I'm NOT looking to forward to Queen's Day. Hope it's better than described. We fly to Prague the day after.

I look forward to hearing from you on the state of the tulips before we leave! Have a wonderful trip.

Thanks so much.

Hi, I will be there this Sunday (1 Apr) in the hope to see some beautiful tulips? Am I going to be fooled? Is it worth visiting Keukenhof this time?

Thank you Heather! That would be great. I e-mailed the Gardens first, and they refused to tell me Don't want to hurt business I guess.

Let me give you one more tip. Besides the well-known fields around Hillegom, Lisse and of course the keukenhof, you can also see them north-west of Amsterdam around the small town of Limmen.
By car, you will find it between Amsterdam and Alkmaar.
Or take a train to Castricum and by bus from there. In Limmen you will not only see the fields, there also is a nice museum with garden. Check:http://www.hortus-bulborum.nl/eng/home-english.html
From Apr.28 till May 3, the small town will be decorated by mosaics made from hycinthneedles. See what it looked like in past years:

Ida,

This looks great! We're thinking of going biking one day from Amsterdam, but if we're not up to it, this will fill in nicely! Thanks for the suggestion and something totally new!

Wahoo! I am going to the Keukenhof Gdns tomorrow. Rumor has it they are in full bloom. I will report back. Stay tuned.
Went to the Escher Museum and the Mauritshuis today in Den Haag. Both are gems of museums. The Escher Museum is fascinating, of course, as Escher had a computer mind long before his time. The Mauritshuis has some excellent paintings of Rembrandt and a couple of incredible Vermeers, including the painting of Delft and the quite famous Girl with the Pearl Earring. The weather is great - cool with lots of sunshine.

I just talked with my friend in Haarlem. She says that the "early" tulips are blooming. The tall ones are yet to come. It will be about 60F in west Holland tomorrow.

OTOH, this freeze in Michigan has doomed my tulips, except for the ones I planted two weeks ago. Fortunately they haven't come up yet.

How sad for me as I am going to Holland for the tulips. It appears I will miss them. I don't arrive in Amsterdam until April 28, and it's a long trip from California.

I just got back from Amsterdam two days ago. As we were on the train from Brussels coming into Amsterdam I saw a few huge fields of Tulips that were beautiful. I also stayed at the Radison right next to the floating flower market. Tulips everywhere. I think april 28th will be beautiful. It was cold because of the wind. No wind and it was great!

End fo April will be still fine. There are many varities in tulips, some bloom much earlier then the others.
In the fields it are the hycathins that are blooming.
Problem could be the final days of Keukenhof end of May.
