How are the Littoral Zones of Spain and Portugal?

Hi, I'm dreaming now of a trip in the sometime future to Spain or Portugal. My dream is to stay near the shore away from humanity in or near some small town and eat seafood every day. Somewhere not expensive, somewhere that I can feel like a local not like a tourista. Stay for two, three, four weeks.

Does anyone know of such small places? I wouldn't mind helping with the grape harvest.

Have you been there? How did it feel?

TIA.

You're way too late for that sort of thing.

Easytraveler, sounds as if you read a novel or saw a movie with that type of setting. Do you speak either language?

Because such places disappeared in the 50s or 60s with the advent of mass tourism. Cheap seafood ? You're fantasizing. Try Albania.

There used to be a place like that on the coast of Spain. A tiny village named Calpe. We bought a time share there in the 60's. We could walk on the beach, eat fresh fish cheaply by the sea, and enjoy quiet times.

By the time it was sold, the entire coast had turned into a place the locals called "the Concrete Coast". Foreigners, mostly German, had built high rise apartments in a solid Maginot Line as far as one could see in any direction. Quiet was a thing of the past, the waiters were mostly Moroccan, and the seafood was frozen from South Africa and cost a fortune.

If you find such a place of your dreams, please let me know.

You can find what you are looking for in Portugal. Look at the west coast quite south of Lisbon. There are some small towns on the coast, prices are reasonable and the fish and seafood fabulous.

I would look at the north of Portugal, not the south, or possibly the northwest coast of Spain. Probably with a car, although buses might work.

Thank you all for your responses

(Particularly ira's )

Sometimes in the near future years, I have been planning to hike the Camino, possibly starting from the French border. Thus, I dreamt that after such a tiring hike, it would be nice to go somewhere with less exercise, relax and eat seafood.

Portugal sounds ideal. Thanks again! Will keep dreaming and keep searching! Obrigado!
