How are the Forums for you today?

We took the site down briefly last night as a part of an effort to fix some of the issues that have cropped up here, especially in the last week or so.

I wanted to check in this morning to see if you were having an easier time clicking around and pulling up your threads.

Thanks for your patience!

adrienne Aug 19th, 2008 06:21 AM

It's about the same. Sometimes the left threads come up quickly but once this morning I waited several minutes for them to refresh. The problems have not been any worse in the last week than they have been for several months.

TPAYT Aug 19th, 2008 06:33 AM

It seems to be much better.
Thanks.

rogeruktm Aug 19th, 2008 06:53 AM

So far much better.

sherhatfield Aug 19th, 2008 07:11 AM

When I first opened the Europe forum this morning, it kept showing the Caribbean posts. I kept clicking on other forums to find the Europe one and eventually it popped up.

Now everything seems fine.

Today Aug 19th 12.35pm :

1. Clicking on a particular Forum brings up that forum's posting, and quickly.

2. Pulling up all posts that I've responded to (by clicking on my username up top) brings up the threads quickly.

Yesterday and during the past 4 days :

1. I'd click on the Canada forum and I'd be sent to the Lounge - after about a 3 minute wait, sometimes never.

2. Pulling up my posting would take several minutes, if at all, otherwise just remain frozen.

Underhill Aug 19th, 2008 08:47 AM

Definitely better. Thanks for responding.

scotlib Aug 19th, 2008 08:47 AM

Mac OS 10.4

Earlier this morning (8-ish) I had no trouble with Safari.

This time the site did not show the list of threads and my login had disappeared.

I switched to Firefox, the site came up fine and my login is in sight.

Final analysis .. hit or miss?

kerouac Aug 19th, 2008 09:15 AM

Still not operating properly, but a little better than it was on previous days.

Please note that when Lonely Planet changed their server last November, theoretically because it was saturated, so many of us were outraged by the result (which is still crap, 10 months later) that we were obliged to create a totally new forum. It has almost 1000 registered users and even though only about 100 are really active, we like it there and would not go back to LP.

I'm sure that Fodorites could figure out how to do the same thing, so please do not screw up your services to provoke this.

tod Aug 19th, 2008 09:16 AM

Never better - Thanks Katie!

quokka Aug 19th, 2008 09:20 AM

Partly better, but problem - thread list not loading - still prevalent now and then (twice in the last two hours).

Cholmondley_Warner Aug 19th, 2008 09:31 AM

How are the Forums for you today?>>>

All over the place like a mad woman's knitting.

lifeofmytime Aug 19th, 2008 11:47 AM

Earlier today when I clicked on the Europe forum, it was bringing up the Asia forum. Things are much better now though.

SuQue Aug 19th, 2008 12:32 PM

It was much better and then it got worse. When I clicked on a thread it would not open at all, in Europe or Latin America. The thread was highlighted but nothing happened.

SuQue Aug 19th, 2008 12:37 PM

After I posted my earlier message, I could not get back into the Forum without leaving Fodors.I had to go to another webiste and then return to be able to read the Forum's threads. So, its still very frustrating.

Nikki Aug 19th, 2008 12:51 PM

Extremely slow, sometimes just freezes, can't pull up threads by clicking on a name.

abram Aug 19th, 2008 01:22 PM

Not great. Sometimes I have to click on a forum several times to get the threads to appear, and when I want to move to the next 50 threads, nothing happens.

Bird Aug 19th, 2008 01:56 PM

Mostly slow. Not much different than yesterday.

prue Aug 19th, 2008 02:29 PM

Started off well and then reverted to being extremely slow and in some cases refusing to bring up posts at all.

Marianna Aug 19th, 2008 02:42 PM

It was okay for a while earlier today but now I have the same problem as the posters right above me.

susanna Aug 19th, 2008 03:24 PM

I couldn't even get into the threads to tell you...same problem today!

StuDudley Aug 19th, 2008 03:37 PM

OK

This is good-by Fodors

I have better things to do with my time than stress test your system for you. I've tried to get threads listed for the last hour, and this is the first time I've been able to do it - but it required that I log in/register - which I did 3 times during that hour & still didn't get in.

Here's the deal:

When you think you have fixed your problems and other "customers" have agreed that you have - e-mail me and I'll return. In the mean time, I'll be over at SlowTrav, AOL, and I'll see what other travel forums exist too.

aussiefive Aug 19th, 2008 03:45 PM

It is also very hit and miss here. Could not get in at all a couple of hours ago. Then when I finally did could not get my own threads.

Just now things came up easily.

Underhill Aug 19th, 2008 08:36 PM

Now that it's night where I am, I'm finding that things aren't working so well: when I try to change forums, nothing happens. I still can't get my own posts to come up at all.

quokka Aug 20th, 2008 12:08 AM

Once again, the thread list took ages to load.

hopingtotravel Aug 20th, 2008 08:38 AM

I was having a lot of trouble too. Nothing would load up and it wanted me to register again. After I changed my password, etc, then I could get in.

tcreath Aug 20th, 2008 08:44 AM

I posted yesterday on the lounge that things were better, but apparently I spoke too soon because I too am still having problems. If I try to switch between forums the index on the left won't come up.

Tracy

kerouac Aug 20th, 2008 08:45 AM

Just now, everything came up immediately. I was amazed after all this suffering.

kleeblatt Aug 20th, 2008 08:59 AM

It's still like opening a box of candy. You never know what you'll get.

Underhill Aug 20th, 2008 09:40 AM

On again, off again.

I have to re-register every time now, but my name isn't showing at the top of the page. Sigh.

GreenDragon Aug 20th, 2008 09:44 AM

On again off again, as mentioned above.

Working fine now, and earlier this morning. Around 11am EST, I logged on only to see blank screens under any forum - though on some forums, if I chose a special area (like Florida in the US forum) it would come up. It wouldn't let me log in at the time, but it does now.

Mathieu Aug 20th, 2008 09:56 AM

I was doing better yesterday as I mentioned in my earlier post, but today its back to square one - on and off.
