How are the flights?
We will be flying with 2 teenagers to Paris in June. They will have the Gameboys and magazines but wondered about in flight movies, etc. on these flights.
|
A lot will depend on which airline you fly and if you sit in coach or business class.
|
I have flown Air France to Paris and there were two movies in coach.

I think that most major carriers will show some type of entertainment if the flight is 4 hours or longer.
|
most international flts have movies even in coach...on the 777 you get your own little screen in front of you in coach
|
correct me if I'm wrong, bot I think the Airbus 330 gives each passenger a screen as well. Not sure about the 340. Does anyone know?
|
When we fly to Paris we usually are on a plane that has only two seats together by the windows, which are very comfortable-no having to climb over strangers every time you need to get up.
They do have movies and feed you once in a while, but the night flights are boring and tiring to me and I just do my best to sleep through them.
I want to start flying day flights, those are the best for reducing jet lag and are not quite as tedious.
If they are anything like the 12 year old in our family-they will not notice anything else as long as the Gameboy stays firmly clutched in their hands:)
|
Remember: it IS an overNIGHT flight, and your hours of sleep will be cut short by 6 (or more) regardless of what you do.

Everyone's day (upon arrival in Europe) will go better, if everyone makes a reasonable and concerted effort to sleep instead of any entertainment on the flight to Europe.

I recommend everyone out of bed by 5 am (assuming you normally get up between 6 and 8) on the day before travel - - and 4 am on the day OF travel.

I don't always follow this advice, but I do think it has been a good idea, when I have done it this way.

Nothing promototes sleep like fatigue.

Best wishes,

Rex
[email protected]
"Nothing promotes sleep like fatigue".

True. Or in my case a couple of good stiff drinks. But that's not recommended for the teens.

Posted by REX " Remember: it IS an overNIGHT flight, and your hours of sleep will be cut short by 6 (or more) regardless of what you do."

There are day flights as well, not all flights to Europe are overnight.
|
About 98% of all trans-atlantic flights to Europe operate overnight. Most of that two percent goes to London, and arrive too late to connect onward anywhere else. The percentage of overnight is probably higher than 98% for flights to Paris.

But your point is technically accurate.
|
For what its worth,Boston only has day flights to london. AA and BA each have one,I believe. All others are red eye.
|
Well, they're not THAT limited. At least 3 from JFK, 1 from IAD (which originates ORD), 1 from YYZ (Toronto).

Maybe that is more than 2% of flights to London, because I think there are probably fewer than 150-200 flights per day from North America (scheduled commercial - - I have no idea about charter).
|
mntpa: Just a kindness for your fellow travelers--please make sure the kids turn the sound off on the Gameboys :)

Now if I could get rid of the card shuffler who seems to follow me everywhere I'd be one happy flyer...

Don't know if this is possible for international flights but my sister and nephew just visited. She was able to rent a small DVD player with two headsets at the airport. She brought along some DVDs from home and I think was also able to rent some at the airport. It served everyone involved quite well. This might be a benefit as sometimes the choices are limited as to what movies will be available for viewing.

Teenagers will do great. Our first transatlantic flight with our kids were when they were 6 and 9. We had packed Gameboys, books, cards, etc. and they rarely used any of it because there was a little screen on the seat in front of them that showed movies, TV shows and had games. Between that and sleeping, it's very bearable. We've flown several times since. and it's not been a problem.

Enjoy your flight!
