How do prices compare in Dublin to other major euro cities such as Paris and London? Looking for a Spring vacation destination.....

A little cheaper, but not terribly so. I preferred both London and Paris to Dublin, by the weay.

People are always saying how expensive Dublin is, right up there with Europe's priciest cities.

I certainly wouldn't disagree - I find that prices for a lot of things in Dublin are comparable with London (where I live).

Are you specifically looking for a cheaper destination than Paris/London?

You've got to be kidding!

Dublin has no concept of customer service or value for money. In paris virtually everything from accomodation to restaurants and food are much cheaper than Dublin. However, at least dublin is open on sunday unlike paris.

Can't compare London. I haven't spent much time there.

Nothing like some sweeping generalisations to inform you.
I would say in general Dublin is cheaper than Paris and London as a tourist but it depends on what you want to do.
Dublin pubs are much cheaper than Paris but wine is more expensive. Like all cities, there are tourist traps in London and Paris and Dublin but you can also eat reasonably in all and I would say customer service is on a par in all 3.
Dublin has its charms and things to see and do but they may not necessarily be what you want to do. As a fun place to visit Dublin is probably the best but that revolves around the pub culture.
Are you looking for a vacation on the cheap, culture or sights. Dublin is certainly not as attractive as Paris or parts of London.
I wouldn’t dictate to anyone what is a good place to visit as everyone is looking for something different.

I live in Dublin and of the three I found Paris to be cheaper for hotels and food. Lomndon in the touristy areas can be quite pricey with exchange rates as well. Dublin costs are high and eating out here I think is getting more and more expensive compared with the continent. Why not try Spain to cut coasts. Madrid and Barcelona would be a good start.

Hi Podge. Not sure when you were last here but Dubs has changed rapidly in the past 10 years.

1) Restaurants in Paris ARE cheaper
2) Restaurants in Paris ofer BETTER service
3) Restaurants in Paris, always offer a complimentary drink either after or before the meal.
4) ppl who work in Restaurants in Paris are multilingual.

It pains me to put down my home town but I want to give honest travel advice. Value for money doesn't exist in dublin.

I now live in Dublin, haven't been in Paris in 2 years, go to London very regularly. I was trying to make the point that you can't really generalise, in that if you come to Dublin for Pub culture it is way cheaper than Paris and similar to London. Restaurants, depending on the level you go for vary. Paris would have a lot more decent low to mid price but also plenty bank breakers.
I agree that service can be an issue but again I don't think you can generalise. I actually prefer London and Paris but as the OP said they had done those, I would also have suggested Barcelona or Madrid as better value with more to see and do but that is the OP's decision. It all depends on what they want out of their vacation.

If you aren't set on Dublin, or the other major cities of Western Europe, have you ever considered Central Europe? We loved Krakow, Budapest, Prague when there in 2002,and at that time prices were great. Imagine the prices are higher now,tho, and haven't been to Dublin for 20 years, so can't compare. But it's time to get your reservations for spring break!!
