House Hunters International is Back!

This is my absolute favorite show. While not really about traveling, it gives wonderful glimpses of faraway locales. Best of all, it even lets us into actual homes that are for sale. Last night, we joined a Californian looking for an apartment in Lucca. Great stuff!

Indeed. I'd have gone for the small, 15th century apt. though. Maybe it's still available...

I realy enjoy this show.

I am sometimes surprised at the prices people pay for real estate in Europe. I am not surprised in the cities like Paris, but some of the more rural prices are a shock.

I also like the smalest one best, but it's hard to judge the location without being there. The view from the rooftop terrace in the first one was truly spectacular. She did say it was the deciding factor. Oh, well, one day, maybe... (sigh)

Damm! I'm mad at myself at having missed it (though thanks for the heads up, Cimbrone). Lucca is my daughter's and my mother's favorite Italian town and I'd have liked to have seen what they've been raving at all these years!

CasaDelCipresso Oct 23rd, 2007 07:14 PM

oh NO...I missed it :-( must go check to see when it will rerun!

Perhaps if we all chipped in for the small apartment we could take turns. A Fodorite time share?

mermaid - Did they say why it was their favorite city? It's actually my least favorite so far. I plan to check out more in the spring though.

Hi kybourbon! My parents like the look of the town--the gardens, the walls, the architecture, the people. I think the fact that it's a smaller town has a lot to do it, too. It's calm and relaxing for them to visit Lucca. Now my daughter--that's a different story. She might tell you it's all about the history and the architecture but you know deep down it's really all about those cute Italian boys who'd whistle Bella Bella Bella! when she and her cousin did the evening passeggiata. One of my absolute favorite shows, it's set on my DVR, so I don't miss it.

I watched it too, the lady was from Newport Beach and wanted a yearly six month home in Lucca.

I didn't like the way she remodeled the old apartment though, I thought she took out all the character. But the views from her rooftop are wonderful.

I love the International House Hunters.

Those 3 flights of stairs would have stopped me. OK for a vacation but tiresome on my old knees after a while. I, too liked the smallest one best.

Cimbrone Oct 24th, 2007 02:33 AM

Great idea, kybourbon! :)

Yeah, this lady had some big $$$. And strong legs!

Looking forward to the next ones...

We have a plethora of these shows in the UK.

What amazes me is the number of people who up sticks to set up life and a business in another country with, apparently, not a clue about the language, the laws, etc., etc. I suppose it makes for more entertaining TV, but personally I'm more inspired by the people who really work at it and make a go of it.

I'm a fan, too!

One of our local lawyer's sister (also a lawyer) bought a villa/country house in Umbria a few years ago. She has turned it into an art school for tourists and tries to spend several months a year there. Funny that growing up she was always Connie, but it seems now she is Constance on her web info.

Thanks Cimbrone, I hope the Lucca program will be showing in my area. I don't know if it was on last night or not.

My stepson and DIL love Lucca also, it is one of their favorite cities mermaid but I think the fact that my DIL has lots of family in Lucca and in small villages around Lucca is part of the reason they enjoy Lucca so much.
