Hours... marche voulants...paris?
Going to Paris in 2 weeks and am looking forward to shopping at the marche volants.
Can someone tell me the usual hours they are open? I particularly want to visit on a Sunday. Thanks |

Well, the things we learn on Fodors. i have lived in France for 12 years, go to the market virtually every Friday, and have never heard of a 'marche volant'! Not a term that is used often in France, although I did find a few references in French on google. Just don't expect too many Francophones to direct you to a 'marche volant'- or at least not in the country. Here in La France Profonde we just have 'marches.'

Thanks for the help.
For Carlux...I found the term Marche volant (first I had read it) from a web site "Take Paris Personally".It uses the term and gives the definition as "temporary market that sets up along an appointed street or boulevard on one, two or even three days a week..... A market street, on the other hand generally refers to an entire street featuring a permanent collection of food shops...." Apparently this is not a term very often if ever used. Oh well..live (or read) and learn. |
Yes, but in Paris, unlike a rural town, there are many marches in difference places and so you couldn't just ask "where is the market"?
I think you can always assume that going in the morning between 9-12 is fine on all of them. Some go longer into the afternoon, but they are usually best in the morning, anyway, as some stuff gets sold or they pack up. The Paris Tourist Office website has a detailed list of them all with their days and hours of opening http://fr.parisinfo.com/shopping_paris/rub1008.html The Marches section is towards the bottom of that page. |
