Hotwire for London and Paris?
 

Hi everyone,

My husband and I are headed to London and Paris for 10 nights this summer. There seem to be some good deals on Hotwire to both cities. I have used Hotwire in the past in Hawaii for a few trips, and also to Seattle, and had great luck, but I've never tried overseas. Has anyone used Hotwire (or Priceline) for Europe? What were your experiences? Thanks!

Priceline is great for London, although the stupendous deals seem to be in the past. Still, you are unlikely to do better elsewhere. Hotwire can also be good too.

Hotwire is pretty good for Paris in some respects. For example, if you want a 4* hotel with good air-conditioning (as many people do in summer), often the Hilton Paris is available at a good rate, and you can be pretty certain of getting it if available, if you read carefully at Betterbidding.com .

With Priceline, you can also get a good air-conditioned 4* hotel, but you have to be more careful about the zones, particularly avoiding the Eiffel Tower - Grenelle - Montparnasse zone, because part of it is outside the Paris peripherique.

Anyway, I've had many great experiences in London with Priceline, and one good experience in Paris.

I alway use Priceline for the airport in Paris, 4* for about 90 usd, it's a great deal.

I just found what I think is the Hilton Paris for $142 on Hotwire, and thinking I should grab that soon...

I would <u>definitely</u> recommend Priceline for London, London airports and CDG, but not for Paris itself. The PL zones are just not well drawn and ther are inconvenient areas/properties in just about every zone.

But Paris hotels are in general lower priced than London - so I just book my hotels there (when not renting a flat) w/o using any of the booking engines.

Beachgirl, if you think you would like the Hilton Paris and its location, and this is a better deal than you can get for a nice air-conditioned hotel booked conventionally, then I would indeed recommend you grab it while you can. Based on the reviews, the A/C is good, which is a very important consideration for me for a summer Paris visit.

WillTravel: I have been to Paris a couple of times before, but my husband never has. The Hilton is right near the Eiffel Tower, right? So I think the location is okay. And the AC is definitely important for both of us in July!

The hilton is a block away from the Eiffel Tower. It is a great location. Was there last March and had a terrific time. In mourning right now because my husband is in Paris without me. Just isn't fair.

I just booked the Hilton Paris through Hotwire...yay :) It was about $900 for 6 nights, so I was very happy. Now I just have to figure out the first 4 nights in London...

I wasn't thrilled with the hotel we stayed in for one night in London last year through Priceline (Copthorne Tara). I MUCH, MUCH, prefer the Bed and Breakfast we stayed at - I was there again this year, for $88 USD for just me (a great breakfast, bottled water when leaving, fruit, cereal bars, etc.)

In Paris I go on my own too, though friends of mine were happy with their hotels through Priceline.

A possible alternative for London might be londontown.com IF you absolutely want to be certain of your location BUT you'll probably pay more than if you use Priceline.
