hotels vs. rental apartments in Amsterdam

My family of four adults will be in Amsterdam for three nights in late february. Does anyone have a feel for hotels that are reasonable, well located and can accomodate four? Or does any one have a thought about an apartment rental link that would go for short term stays.

We rented a nice 2 bedroom apt thru Maes B&B. Reasonably priced and good location.

Amsterdam is great for using Priceline's "Name Your Own Price' feature. Check the Netherlands forum at http://tripadvisor.com and look for threads called 'Bidding on a 4 star...' and
'Bidding on a 5 star...'

You can often get a great centrally located hotel for in the 75 dollars a night range.

You should also check http://betterbidding.com and http://biddingfortravel.com to learn more about Priceline bids...

Good luck!

Few hotels have quad rooms, especially in central Amsterdam. And Priceline doesn't do quad rooms. You'll probably have to get two rooms. Keep that in mind when comparing apartments to hotels.

For reviews and recommendations look at www.tripadvisor.com. And at www.slowtrav.com/other/vr/list.asp?r=Netherlands for reviews of apartments (and a houseboat!) and apartment rental agencies in the Netherlands.

We just got back from Amsterdam and stayed at the Aadlers Hotl, where we were upgraded to a "family" room with two big double beds on the ground floor. I think this room is normally pretty expensive, but since you're going in February, you might be able to get it for less than the going rate. The hotel is located about a block and a half from both the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, as well as the same distance from the Hobbestraat stop for Trams #2 and #5, which take you quickly to Dam Square (where you can walk to the Anne Frank House or transfer to other tram routes) and to Central Station. We thought the Aalders was very nice and had a decent breakfast. I would recommend it.
