Hotels suggestions for Prague please
This is way in advance but I am planning on going to Prague next August/September 09 and would like to get ideas on hotels to suggest.
By starting the planning it should keep me happy and focused on saving for my trip. :) Here's the info: 1) Single female traveling alone 2) What areas should I should look at? 3) Not sure what the $ exchange will be by then, but would prefer not to spend more than $100 - 125 a night - is this doable? 4) I don't need luxury, but like everyone else, want clean and safe 5) I do want bathroom en suite with a shower. Thanks for starting off my research. |
Look at U Tri Bubnu. My son stayed there and loved it. It's right at the Old Town Square and has a lot of charm.

I have often recommended the Hotel Kampa Garden on this site.
It meets all of your requirements and its location on Kampa Island is IMO the perfect location in Prague. Close to everything, yet quiet and safe with great views. Kampa Island is directly under the Charles Bridge and has access by stairs or ramp. The rate posted at today's exchange rate is $131 in September (high season) and $108 in August (medium season) for a single room. The price includes all taxes and a decent breakfast. A 5% discount is given for payment in cash or you could even get a 15% discount by paying in full at least one month in advance but the latter is not refundable. |
Have you checked K+K Central? I came across this hotel while planning my own trip.

If I were single and traveling alone I would want to stay in a b&b. Every b&b we have stayed in the hosts have been so accommodating and they take the time to answer your questions and help in every way they can.
My sister and I are staying in a b&b in Prague the end of this month (Sept). It is, however, in a neighborhood and not in the central area. We prefer that as we like being out of the central tourist areas to enjoy the neighborhoods. You can check b&bs at tripadvisor. We are staying at: Lida Guesthouse web sites: http://www.lidabb.eu/ |
thank you everyone -- great suggestions....I'll look up each place -- keep on posting the suggestions... :)

As a solo traveler, I absolutely loved Hotel Residence Mala Strana. Great location, incredible staff (I was there in May 2007), super breakfast. I highly recommend it.
BTW, Prague is the only place in the world-as-I-know-it that has ever charged me for dining alone! Not every place does it, but it is often the case. I remember sitting next to a group of adolescents and thinking, "You know, ordinarily I bet MY tip would have been bigger than all theirs put together!" |
I've been to Prague three times and never heard of anyone being charged for dining alone, nor have I ever been. I'm not sure what that means, that they put a surcharge on the ticket because there is only one person at the table?
I'd stay in the Old Town area/Mala Strana, that's easy. I prefer the Josefov area myself, I've stayed there every time I've been in Prague. I think your budget is slim for anything very nice with the current exchange rate, which is terrible, but is much more likely in August than September (I've gotten a discount at a hotel in Prague in August as that is low hotel season in many large cities). Of course, if you go in August, a hotel at that price range probably won't have AC, though. |

We stayed at the Hotel Pav last fall while working our way to Oktoberfest. The hotel was very clean, relatively inexpensive but was next door to one of the oldest brew hall the 'U Flecku" |
Yes, Christina. My guidebook had mentioned it might happen, but I still was a bit surprised when it did. It happened in Old Town Square and in one cafe near St. Charles.

I couldn't look up all the hotels last night - but again thank you everyone. Hopefully tomorrow night I'll finally get a chance.

Hi!
One option is a private accommodation. We just opened a new apartments in Wenceslas Square (the main shopping boulevard). Please check a following website with full descriptions and prices: http://www.helenavatanen.com/accommodation_prague.htm And if there is any questions please send me an e-mail and I will answer in a minute :) |
K & K Central was fabulous - we stayed there for a week in 2006 and it was wonderful. Lovely, huge rooms and the most amazing breakfast buffet ever - we weren't hungry until dinner! Really lovely area to explore from as well - we walked everywhere.
|
I'll add a vote for K+K Central. We spent five nights there last Nov 2007. I think the rate was $150/nt inc. buffet breakfast and high speed internet access in the room. The hotel was clean, comfortable and conveniently located. Service was pleasant and helpful. We'd definitely stay there again...

We stayed at U Tri Bubnu (Three Ostriches) in May. We had to schlep our bags up 4 flights of stairs (no elevator) and it was hot in our room (no ac). Of course we had to have the windows open, and the action outside went on way into the wee hours (noisy). The attached restaurant is very nice (though expensive), and I can't recall the numbers exactly, but I believe the room rate was definitely in excess of $125.

Thank you so much..I've looked at all the suggestions, which all seem good, but it seems that I might have to up my hotel budget, which I'm surprised, especially since in the past I've found perfectly nice hotel rooms in London, Paris, Amsterdam, for around $130/150, and so far, every room I've seen in Prague is closer to $200... Am I missing something?

Hi lyb; Go to tripadvisor.com and type in the city/dates and 'under $100 and see what happens. ENJOY Iris
