Excuse me, HowardR, but did I ask for the thread to degenerate like that? Was there anything sarcastic or rude about my original question, anything in it that asked for so much irrelevance in the replies? All I wanted to know was if I could hope to find decent lodgings on the day without "too much trouble". Next time perhaps I should use lots of exclamation points and smiley emoticons, so as not to insult anyone's sensibilities?

I was only poking fun at StCirq, attempting to lighten things up. Deepest apologies if I offended him/her, or anyone else.

My thanks to those of you who were helpful, and who posted of their own attempts at booking for the near future. Contrary to what some have suggested, I did not have my mind made up prior to posting. I WAS leaning towards not booking ahead, but I changed my mind thanks to your posts. Much appreciated!

The Mosel region is known for high season during the fall (Sept/Oct), because the vintage is in full swing. Esp busy during the weekends, as the region is popular for weekend trips.

Why on earth would somebody say:

"I think Jenner's decision was made before she posted and just hoped for confirmation of what she wanted to do."

about a half hour AFTER Jenner posted:

"I'm not bound and determined, which is why I asked in the first place. And I think I may just go ahead and book something when my husband comes home and can help me decide."

Is there a reason so many people seem to be treating other posters so negatively lately? And is there a reason so many of us seem so touchy lately?

Hi Patrick, I just had a conversation with my daughter and she has found "a lot of people" are touchy and ready to argue about anything and everything also. She thinks it is because so many nerves are shot due to the trauma of Katrina plus the 4th anniversary of Sept. 11th. I don't know of course, but perhaps she is correct. I do know this, we both agreed that this is the time for all of us to be kind to each other. To show some patience and to not try to stir up arguments.

Peace!

Gee, Patrick, I didn't see the message about not being determined to wing it--and you're right, there seems to be a great deal of defensiveness if not downright nastiness in posts these days.

I think LoveItaly is right. There is a tension in the air. Anyway, on the internet it is hard to tell if someone is being funny, teasing, or just mean.
