Hotels or guesthauses in Cochem
We've decided to begin our Germany trip in Cochem. I've done a search on the Mosel Valley and have come up with a few promising names for places to stay. Are there any others anyone can recommend? We'll arrive in Frankfurt on a Friday and drive over to Cochem. We may use Cochem as our base for 2-3 days. Thanks!

Try the Hotel Triton. It's across the river from the castle and the main part of town, which gives you an incredible view of the whole scene. And it's a nice hotel at a reasonable price. Getting to town is just a short walk across the river bridge. Good luck.

Cochem is a good choice. I don't know the Triton, but that side of the river, as Wayne explains, usually offers a very scenic view of Reichsburg Castle and the rest of the town. It's known as the "sunny side" of town since it gets more late-day sunshine than old-town Cochem, which is shadowed by the hills behind it. I think it can be a good choice, but I prefer staying across the river in the old town area, where the narrow, cobblestoned lanes brim with shops, bakeries, and pedestrians (streets are closed to through-traffic.) I usually stay in private B&B's there at around 20 Euros per person; Haus Hilken (Loehrstrasse 20) and Haus Mattes (Loehrstrasse 34) have treated me well there on several visits.

Thanks Wayne and Russ for the good tips. I've seen Hotel Mattes mentioned in other posts. I'll certainly research all of these!

The Burg Hotel is a option too.Moselpromenade 23, ph - 02671/71-17 It is an old hotel.(1500's) The owner has an extensive antiques collection in the Hotel. Most of it is anciant armour and such. Very unique. It has 2 restaurants. Ask for a room with a river view. They have little balconies where you can enjoy the local wine.
Have fun. |
