Hotels on Romantic road
Will be travelling the Romantic road in Germany by car the last week of August into the first few days of September. Would like to travel without reservations at hotels as we like to stay flexible. Is this possible on that road that time of year?
Thanks in advance for any and all information. |
Hey hermit,
Maybe not an answer to the are reservatons nesessary, but we can highly recomend a stay at: www.romanticroad.com/zumrappen This place is very nice (everything looked new) with a great buffet breakfast and gorgeous farmland views from the room balcony (ask for rom w/balcony) just 10 or 15 minutes north of Rothenburg. Hi hermit,
it should certainly be possible, at least for the not so visited towns.. .I would only make a reservation for Rothenburg, in case you want to spend your overnight there. But even close to Rothenburg are many small places where an accommodation can easily be get. |
Thanks, pja1 and wolfmisc. Think I'll take my chances!

Hi H,
At least look up a few places that you would find acceptable before you go. You will still be traveling during the high season. ((I)) |

In the process of doing just that. |
The Romantic Road is really not that long. Are you planning to spend all of your trip on the road?
Example: You can stay in Rothenburg and make easy day trips to Dinkinsbuhl or over to Nuremburg. You may want to find a nice place to set up camp and then explore as changing hotels each day wastes a lot of time. You have to start early to check out the hotel, find the rate, decide if you want to stay there and then unpack...again. We have done this area many times. We usually stay in the north end for a few days then stay down south. Sure saves the daily hotel swap. Find a nice place in ROTHENBURG for the north and then in GARMISCH for the south. Stay within the town gates in Rothenburg as it is a great town to explore on foot in the evening and parking is tight. Have fun....great area! |
I strongly recommend the Greifen-Post in Feuchtwangen. Good location, right in the middle of the Romantic Road, in a charming medieval town, and a wonderful historic hotel with good food.
