Hotels near Nice with good vistas of Riviera coastline from higher elevations?
Hi again!
We are looking for a nice place near Nice that will have vistas of the coastline from up on the hills. Would prefer that over staying along the shoreline. I have read many recommendations for nice places near St. Paul, especially Le Hameau. They have a double room with a terrace available. Do any of the terraces at Le Hameau have a view of the Riviera coastline? Or do the rooms/terraces mainly look onto the pool or a garden? Any recommendations for a hotel with good vistas of the coast? (The 2 fantastic places in Eze are above our range.) Thanks! Ginny |
At Le Hameau, room 23 has a distant view of the coastline from the front window and loggis; the view from the pool is also good, out across the hills to the Mediterranean. But I wouldn't say it's a terrific view, given the distance. However, I remember having breakfast out on the loggia and looking at the Mediterranean--not bad at all.
I suggest that you ask reception at Le Hameau about what the view is from the room that they propose. |
Since I was just looking at www.logis-de-france.fr in relation to another question tonight, I looked there for the area above Nice you are seeking, and there are several (I think) with an address at or near Colomars.
The one that shows the most promising pictures is named, aptly, Hotel Le Panoramic... http://www.hotellepanoramic.com Best wishes, Rex |
A "loggis" is of course a cross between a log-in and a haggis.

Several years ago I stayed in Nice along the Shore at Le Perouse. Great views of the sea and beach.
|
My wife and I stayed at La Perouse in 2000. Unfortunately we did not get a room with the balcony.
|
Thanks for your replies! I have booked a room at Le Hameau, number 2, if I understand the email correctly. She said it has a nice view of the valley, the garden and of the sea, with a private terrace. I am sure it will be nice.

Villefrance-sur-Mer is a beautiful place for the scenery. I had a beautiful view..this area has been in many, many movies....

We stayed at Le Hameau last summer and it was wonderful! The view is distant, but they have a great infinity pool and the rooms are lovely. We ate a a little family run bistro down the road called "Le Blanc Manger" that was wonderful! Make sure you go to Eze! It is beautiful!

gopack,
i meant to recommend room #2--not 23. i think you'll find it very pleasant and spacious, with a wonderful bathroom: two sinks, covered shelving on both sides, all done in teak. more shelves beneath. this is our favorite room of the four we've stayed in at le hameau. say hello to it for us, please. |
We've also booked a night in room #2 at Le Hameau (on Underhill's recommendation). The owner said it is the one with a view. Will be fun to compare notes when we all return!

I'll be in St Paul-de-Vence for one night on August 24th.

Stayed there a while back and was quite satisfied. The only drawback was that the room terraces are not very private. The location is extremely convenient for exploring the area, but you absolutely need a car. Hope this helps, Andre |
I'm so jealous of you all. Please have a lunch at La Colombe D'Or and think of me.
|
I swear I'll toast you at dinner, mclaurie, we are spending the night, my early birthday present.

Stayed there quite some time ago (1998 IIRC). Definitely enjoyed it, though as I recall the room terraces were not very private. The location is excellent for exploring the area (easy access to the A8 autoroute), but you absolutely need a car. Hope this helps, Andre |
I must be losing it... thought that my first reply had not posted, but by golly there it was. Sorry for repeating myself!

Thanks again everyone! After saying I had reserved room 2 at Le Hameau, I am not sure they received my email to reserve it because they have not replied back. I will send them another email tonight to remind them. I am glad that room 2 is a good one!!
Andre, I will also recheck the Terrasses in Eze. Thanks. Hopingtotravel, When will you be at Le Hameau? We will be there April 27 and 28. Ginny |
Ginny, we will be there May 1 (if everything goes well). If they have a guest register, leave us a note that says "hello, Alaskans". It's funny, on about the 10th night of our trip through Ireland we ran into a couple from Minnesota who said they had been 1 day behind us on our whole trip because they rememembered our names from the guest register!

Hopingtotravel,
We are from Texas, a long way from Alaska. We went to Alaska last June and loved it!! 7 days on land and a 7 day cruise from Seward to Vancouver. We want to go back again. Beautiful country! What is your itinerary for France? Ginny |

Ginny, I haven't posted the itinerary in detail yet as there are still a couple of towns I'm working on. When I do post, I'll probably run and duck (from criticism) because there are a lot of one-nighters. I've never done the Seward to Vancouver cruise but I have been out of Seward harbor in a small boat several times and it can be incredibly beautiful.
