Hotels in Vienna
Can anyone comment on Pension Pertschy and Hotel Schweiterhof in Vienna? Rick Steves describes Pertschy rooms as being well worn and a bit musty. A quiet room is mandatory and some charm would be welcome. Also being considered is Hotel Zur Wiener Staatsoper on Krugerstrasse which is a karen Brown recommendation. This is our first trip to Vienna--October 2007.

I stayed at Pertschy and really liked it. It was pretty noisy at night, though. I don't remember too much mustyness, at least not enough to bother me. The location was great and the breakfast very, very good.

How long will you be staying in beautiful Wien?

My recommendation: Try the Hotel Austria off Fleishmarkt: old but great Viennese feeling, good rates and big breakfast. Get room facing the courtyard.

Look at www.venere.com and you'll see plenty of reviews for those hotels.

Kenav-
I'll be staying at the Hotel Austria next month. Any reason in particular to get a room facing the courtyard? I usually like to get rooms facing the street so I can watch local life out my window. A "room with a view". Is it too noisy there? Are the courtyard rooms nicer? |
Thanks for your replies. We will stay 3 or 4 nights in Vienna. Good suggestion to check venere--also will look at tripadvisor. A courtyard view would always be my choice--don't have any special desire to overlook street activity. Since Vienna will be a new experience for us I would like to avoid making a mistake on hotel selection--something we have done on previous trips.I could create a brochure on poor choices of hotels.

If you are staying 3 or 4 days you should try an apartment. Here is a site for the family Duschel's apts near the opera house...highly recommended.

Hi Kristina -
I suggested a room facing the courtyard since I've heard that the rooms facing the street can be noisy as they are over or next to a nightclub! The street itself is not loud at all. (Lovely street.) We had a room facing the courtyard and it was very quiet. Had no idea the street facing rooms might be noisy until I read it here on Fodor's. So, I'm just passing on that information. |
