Hotels in Venice?

Looking for a 'reasonable' yet clean place to stay in Venice with my pregnant wife. Location is key, as well. We'd like to pay around 200 eruos?? I've heard the Best Western is actually pretty nice. Has anyone stayed there? Cheesy?

We just came back and had a lovely stay at Hotel Bernardi...tucked away about halfway between Rialto and C'a D'Or. Would highly recommend it, and it will cost a bit less than 200 euros, I think. www.hotelbernardi.com

Look at Locanda Orseolo.

We loved our stay there.

Well within your budget, 'search' here for all kinds of great reviews.

Ambassador Tre Rose. Inexpensive. Incredible staff. No frills but could not believe how wonderful the staff was. VERY close to St. Mark's without the big $$$ signs usually attached. Elevator for the preggers one. Good breakfast. One morning during acqua alta, a dear sweet lady brought us enough food to feed an army!! Read bad reviews after I booked hotel. Very glad i didn't read them beforehand b/c I might have missed what was an integral part of our great visit to Venice.

Best Western hotels in Europe are usually independently owned but a member of the Best Western marketing group. We've stayed at a few, though not the one in Venice, and found them to have generally reasonable rates and to be accurately depicted on the website. A bit plain but comfortable and clean.

Best Western has a points program. You can accummulate points towards Best Western rewards or have the points credited to a frequent flyer program.

The Best Western Hotel Ala is very nice, and only about €150.00. There is a vaporetto stop just steps from the hotel, and it's a short walk from Piazza San Marco. This is the official website: www.hotelala.it -- but this one has better pictures: http://www.veniceby.com/alahotel/

Hi w,

Many people have liked the Smeraldina room in the Locanda Barbarigo. About 190E.

For what it's worth--and I am fairly surprised myself!--just this morning booked 2 superior doubles at Pensionne Accademia for 4 nights in August for 140 euro/night, includes breakfast and tax.

HI--I was about to recommend the Marconi where we stayed in 2000. At that time, we paid 200 *dollars* for our room. When I just checked some random dates in May--your post does not say when you are going--the rate was 280 *euros*, altho that was for a superior double and we may have had just a regular double which is still 230 euros. Things are just so much more expensive in Europe now!! However, it is a great hotel in a great location. It is part of a very small Venetian "chain" of hotels that are all nice. Here is the link for them:

The FLora is also a great little hotel. It's minutes from San Marco, and has it's own little garden.

I havent' stayed in any BW in Italy but I have in SPain and it was delightful. In general BWs in Europe have a good reputation.

For more comments on any of the hotels mentioned, check tripadvisor.com, and do a search here on their names.

I tried booking most of these hotels for July. It is full!

socialworker Apr 8th, 2005 04:48 AM

HI anitabelle--not sure which hotels you were referring to when you say "most of these hotels", but I just looked at the Marconi--who on their website have what they call an availability tableau that shows what rooms are available--and they had lots of empty rooms for July.
