Hotels in Venice

I have the oppurtunity to stay in either of these hotels in early March.

Carlton- 110 euro per night
Splendid Suisse- 100 euro per night.

Those of you that have stayed at these hotels, what are the pro's and cons ?
Thanks for your input.

I haven't stayed at those hotels, but if you search here on either, you should find past comments.

I can tell you that the Splendid Suisse has a very good location, a 5-7 minute walk to San Marco. And just across the canal is a very good casual restaurant called Sempione.

My husband and I met a lawyer in Rome last year who stayed at the Colombina in Venice and said it was a good hotel.
I dont think you could go wrong with the two hotels you mentioned - they are both in the Citalia brochure as a 4 star. Would not book anything less than a 4 star in Italy unless you are recommended.
I am sure you will enjoy Venice - it is a wonderful place.
Isobel

Those are 4* properties at that price?? I'd say go for it. I have not been to the Splendid Suisse, but I do know someone who stayed there. They said location, location location! ;-) They also said that the rooms were large and very clean, although the hotel is showing signs of age, they would stay there again.

I can vote in favor of the Colombina as well, though you didn't mention it originally. I haven't stayed there but I inspected it. New, charming decor, overlooking a quiet canal. Rooms moderately-priced. Excellent location.
Last time I checked prices were higher than those you quoted.
