Do you have a town in mind? Tuscany is a pretty big region. I stayed in Siena 2 nights but I would not call the hotel charming and I don't remember the name of it. There is plenty to do in Siena to keep you busy for a day.
Have you thought about going somewhere on the way from Florence to Venice instead so you don't have to backtrack? I liked Verona, but I stayed with family so have no hotel rec. |
no specific place just want to do some wineries and such

If you choose Sienna, there is a great hotel called Borgo Grandai. We stayed there on the recommendation of several people on this board. It is within walking distance of the train station. It is a former farm. Two sides of the property are not impressive, but the others have beautiful views. The proximity to the train station was the main draw for us. Rooms are large, staff great, location is convenient. PJK

I recommend that you consider a rural B&B or small apartment - they are usually cheaper than hotels and a much better way to get to know the region. For the Chianti Classico wine zone, check out the listings on www.greve-in-chianti.com

Check out Hotel Salivolpi in Castellina. http://www.tuscany.net/salivolpi/index.html Very nice place, good breakfast, and Castellina is well located on SR 222, the Chianti Road.
Or check out Hotel Il Giglio in Montalcino http://www.gigliohotel.com/en/aboutus/ [email protected] |
