Hotels in Tallin

I plan to spend a month this summer in Riga, Latvia, and thought that a short trip to Tallinn would be fun. Has anyone visited Tallinn? Any good ideas for a moderately priced hotel in the old city? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Shirley

If you're going to be in the Baltics for a month, Tallinn is a must! People are friendly, food and drink is excellent and cheap. I didn't stay in the Old Town, I was just outside the gates, about five minutes walk away. If you're going there from Riga, your best bet for transport is a Eurolines coach. It takes about four or five hours but costs about 10 euros.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

I will be visiting Tallinn in a few weeks and have chosen the Domina City hotel.

Because it is not yet rated, the prices tend to be good, but the hotel and facilities easily look like 4 star or above.

I also condsidered its sister hotel the Domina Ilmarine which also looks nice and very good value, though we decided to go for the Domina City in the end.

We did look into the Grand and a variety of 5 star hotels but the feedback didn't really seem to justify the prices for us.

I can report when I get back.

Kavey

I stayed in the Reval Hotel (http://www.revalhotels.com/) when I visited Tallinn in March of this year. While not exactly historic or "quaint", it was relatively cheap (I seem to recall about 50 pounds a night) and had the most ENORMOUS rooms, wonderfully clean, and was five minutes walking distance from the gates to the Old City. It also allowed me to check in at 7am since I'd taken a nightmare coach trip from St Petersburg to get there overnight, so it was an added to bonus to get some sleep before heading into town!
