Hotels in Switzerland
Anyone have any experiences in these hotels: Grande Hotel Suisse Majestic in Montreux, Metropole in Interlaken and Hotel Schweizerhof in Zurich? I'm planning a 9 day trip in May, travelling by train throughout.

Hi Steph - I stayed at the Grande Hotel Suisse Majestic in July of 2007. We loved it. The staff was very kind. One thing I will share is it is important - get a room with a lake view. All the reports I read on Trip advisor said there was a big difference. We had a jr. suite I think - with an attached room. It was lovely - I will attach a photo if I can.
It is RIGHT across from the train station - we walked with our bags - no issues.
We walked to the Castle as well - it was lovely.

Steph - it was very quiet there the entire time. It was chilly - and it was a few days away from the jazz festival so they were starting to set up for it when we were leaving. I have read bad reviews if you do not have a lake front room. Just know that there is street etc between you and the lake - it is lake front but not ON the lake. Does that make sense? We were very happy with the property. The service was excellent and we found a great Italian resturant that I will find the name of...

I stayed at the Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic also, a couple years ago in the summer. It was a very nice hotel and I liked it a lot. It was a really convenient location, also.
My room faced the lake and I had a small balcony. I was afraid it was going to be really noisy being right over that main street, more or less, but it really wasn't. I was only on the second floor, as I recall, which wasn't my choice but what I got. It wasn't as bad as I had feared (that was actually one floor below the main level where the front desk is. I think they have two floors below the main one. A higher room and overlooking the lake would be great, I think.
I really planned it for the convenience to the train station, and there is a bus that runs along the street on the other side that is free (the hotel gives you a pass to use) and you can take that to Vevey or to the castle.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Schweizerhof in Zurich 2 years ago.
It is right across from the train station so very, very convenient in terms of location.
The hotel has smallish rooms but they are nicely decorated and the beds are comfortable with nice duvets.
There is a lovely room for breakfast and the breakfast itself is quite nice.
It's pricey. But so is everything.
For a bit less money, and not too much less in panache, you can try the Hotel Opera. It is by the opera house and near the lake which would be nice in May. Ask for a renovated room. The location will require a quick tram ride or taxi from the train station but it is still very, very nicely located.
We always have visitors stay there and they always love it. We stayed there for 2 weeks ourselves when we re-located. It was like our Blair House IYKWIM...
Concierge is very helpful and will make all your dining reservations.

It wasn't included, but we hope to find a casual spot for breakfast near the hotel...is that a reasonable plan?
I will look into the Hotel Opera, by the way, gruezi, thanks for the suggestion!
